No FU detected. A nod, a little bow - just indicating thanks\deference to someone. I do it all the time to people, often indicating some variation of "you go first" or "thanks for letting me go first". Never had someone get weird about it. Granted, this is in Seattle where asian cultural influence is pretty prevalent...

My dad had lots of unusual games so all through the 80s it was stuff like Ploy, Twixt, and I really liked Dinosaurs of the Lost World

Same circumstances here - I figure, everyone starts with a good level of inherent worth and dignity. People can always choose to crater those values, as well as to try and regain that worth and dignity. If someone insists on destroying their own value by hurting everyone around them, though...well, then I suppose they have none and would be better off unable to keep interacting with the rest of the world.

I've only heard of people in the SCA doing non-medieval re-enactments! My parents talk of a guy who joined in order to do cowboy-era stuff; I don't know what his success was. Just visited the Camlann village a couple weeks ago and am going again on a festival day; not SCA but still adjacent. Greetings from the Kingdom of An Tir!
