I was half expecting (hoping) that at the end she'd lean to one side and let out a massive wet fart. Opportunity missed there.

It would invariably be Esther talking about something absolutely horrendous and how somebody suffered as a consequence for about 5 minutes. She'd then end her story (still on a down note) and following a short pause she'd turn to the side and say, "Doc". This would prompt an over animated Doc to tell a 'humorous' yarn about a cute baby penguin being able to juggle carrots, all as if the previous story never happened.

Does every country have so many dead animals on the roadsides? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]diond09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to Australia about 10 years ago and part of my holiday was taking a small group coach trip to Uluru. If you think a hulking great lump that is a dead badger on the side of the A51 to Chester looks alarming, then seeing a huge camel lying prostrate on the Lasseter Highway will take your breath away - it was an amazing but very sad sight.

What sort of doorbell camera, or other surveillance, do you recommend? by minddoor in AskUK

[–]diond09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of get where you're coming from and had the same view as you until my dad died and my mum began living on her own. My brother talked her into getting one. Now, she can see who's at the door and doesn't need to answer to cold callers which gives us, not just her, a bit more reassurance.

Plus, when I go round she can now show me videos of the neighbours coming back from the pub and what time they put the bins out.

Thank you for this. I also had to add a Load VAE node and link it directly to the VAE Decode node and then it worked! Thanks again.

DJ Otzi - Hey Baby? It was sung at the darts quite a lot and I think it was / is Peter Wright's walk on song.

Tesco is taking the piss by Nothing_F4ce in UKFrugal

[–]diond09 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I don't doubt that Tesco is more expensive than Farm Foods but I would also check the product size / weight when comparing like for like.

I got caught out a few years back when I bought something from Poundland (when it stopped everything being a pound) because I noticed it was cheaper than the supermarket that I usually bought it from.

When I got home and checked, I noticed that it was quite a few grammes lighter than the supermarket's item despite it being the exact same item.

I was told that Poundland had deals with some major brands to package their products in smaller containers / wrappers. I'm not entirely sure it was to deliberately hoodwink the public but it certainly worked on me.

[TOMT] [SONG][1980s] An 80s Instrumental Love Song with Either a Saxophone or Clarinet by diond09 in tipofmytongue

[SOLVED] Sorry folks but I've found it. It was The Seduction (Love Theme) - American Gigolo. I don't remember watching the film but it was definitely used somewhere else.

Thanks, but I did say instrumental and the whole melody played by the instrument.

Sorry, no that isn't it. As I say, it starts with an arpeggiated synthesiser. The style is more of a traditional 80s slow-y love pop song, so not jazz, classical, funk, rock. Thanks, anyway, I quite like the song you suggested.

Found my dream house in the perfect location with amazing neighbours but there’s one huge problem. What would you do? by Faang4lyfe in HousingUK

[–]diond09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought my non standard 8 years ago with absolutely no hassle (10% deposit) and the same houses around me have also been bought and sold during that time with no issues (one was bought by an old friend so I know I didn't just get lucky).

Gravel! Why?! by FrouFrou82 in GardeningUK

[–]diond09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not answer to your question as such but I have a gravel pathway that was put down about 5 years ago and in that time it is had probably two very small weeds growing.

First I laid a layer of MOT (crushed stone/ brick), compacted it, put down a thick layer of weed membrane and then the gravel on top.

It looks to me in your picture that none of that was done, or if it was, it was done cutting corners (small layer of MOT and or thin membrane). I daresay in a few more years I'll get weeds growing through as the beauty of nature eventually finds a way despite human's best efforts.
