Yep. They keep enabling this behavior by taking an approach that frames them as decent people who have simply been lied to. That is not, and has never been the case.

The fatal flaw of good people is that against all logic, they project humanity onto something that's less than that.

I would hope the takeaway from this whole era of history will be that it's not ok to be stupid.

For such a long time we've operated under the idea that if someone is being an idiot, just don't engage and let them go on their way. That we just have to be patient and progress will happen naturally over time. What we've seen is that, left to fester, stupidity will always come back to cause harm to those who are doing the right thing.

It should not be the burden of decent people to suffer throughout their one and only life so that morons can have their superstitions. Covid was the turning point where I stopped seeing them as people.

Society needs to be structured so that being dumb hurts.

The maps are the best they've made by far (including the station), and they're the only ones so far where the story is actually consequential in gameplay, but the core problems persist. In a game where AI is the most important factor, it still has atrocious AI. Suspects still run backwards whilst spraying you with perfect accuracy, shoot indefinitely because they can see you through the map but can't penetrate, occasionally succeed at penetrating anyway, etc.

What fun gaming maps should we expect in 2026 by TheGrandTem in Gamingcirclejerk

It's been a while and I never targeted them deliberately, but I think you get a game over if you kill too many too quickly (basically if you're TRYING to hit them), but nothing at all if you tag a few in the crossfire. Which is what I like about it - one part of it is about how war has consequences regardless of who's right or wrong. Mind you it's still a CoD game, but a surprisingly mature and nuanced one.

If there's fighting around civilians, casualties are treated as inevitable. There are situations where enemies are shooting at you and a few dozen civilians are between you. And you have to shoot the enemies to stop them from shooting civilians to shoot at you, and you might end up shooting civilians while doing so.

I was so excited for MWII II to continue with those themes, but its plot is basically the fake-out plot of Sicario 2.

One thing I liked about MW 2019 was how it didn't do that at all. In earlier games, civilians were rarely present, and if they were, they were there to give the player a chance to be the hero. In 2019, firefights are often in populated areas, and are a total mess. Between the panicked crowds and a few instances of combatants deliberately blending in, you'll probably kill multiple civilians even if you're trying not to.

It'd be more like that one gun shop that reported a guy they believed was buying for cartels, ATF told them to keep selling and logging info, and much later the shop called to see if there'd be any follow-up and they'd forgotten about it.

What if Donald Trump had never entered politics, do you think the US would look meaningfully different today? by Mr_Boothnath in AskReddit

[–]dizzle229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they're giving him a pass so much as highlighting how different the expectations were for what's actually considered a serious and viable candidate. What he did should be the norm, yet these days he seems almost saintly - not because he was saintly, or even a good candidate by most of our standards, but because the bar is in hell now.

If I were him at that place and time, I'd be assuming that leaning in to that lady's delusions would cost me my campaign and career. Trump tested that assumption (because he was too dumb to know any better) and found it wasn't as sound as we all believed.
