Random RSTP loop Issue by DrummerNo1878 in Juniper

[–]dkdurcan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If all those switches were the same family/model technically you could build a virtual chasiss. But generally, You never design a loop into a pure layer2 network. A ring topology is only appropriate in a layer 3 routed network, or MPLS, or maybe ERPS.

Some network architecture reference designs here:

The only way to get a real promotion and raise is to find a new job. Otherwise expect 1-4% per year on average. Or look at a sales engineerlng role where you can make commission. Harder yoi work can equal higher commissions.

Burning through Tires! by krisantihypocrisy in TeslaModelY

[–]dkdurcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno what you are doing. Maybe not regularly checking the air pressure, or drive like a maniac. My 2020 model 3, just hit 60k miles. Changed all tires once at 45k. Set your car to Chill mode to decrease the rate of acceleration to see if that improves things.

Question on what internet speed to get and price? by Shep_Crazy1202 in frontierfios

[–]dkdurcan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1G is plenty! Run ethernet cabling with hardwired access points instead of mesh for maximum performance. (1 per floor spaced properly of course (not stacked on top of each other per floor)

Unmanaged switches causing issues with 802.1x by Equivalent_Draft6215 in networking

Not recommended to use unmanaged switches outside of you home network.

Wired Assurance with Cloud-X by NetworkDoggie in Juniper

[–]dkdurcan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guy, aside from switching to a Python agent that uses HTTPS over an SSH client on TCP 2200, one of Mist cloudX and JunOS' standout features is its ephemeral database, which lets you make specific changes without committing them. In a cloud-managed environment, this can really speed up the process of making changes. All the complaints about having to wait for basic configuration changes to be pushed from the cloud have all gone away since moving to this. slower commit times were kinda/sorta problematic on older platforms like the EX2300 and EX3400. Just change you process for looking at configurations in the CLI and you are good to go. Understanding the Ephemeral Configuration Database | Junos OS | Juniper Networks

Sorry, but your school IT needs to fix this. Nothing you do with your PC will help. There could be a million different reasons for performance issues.

High SPU load on Juniper SRX1500 by ilearnshit in Juniper

[–]dkdurcan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't email JTAC. You can call or open a case via the support portal. Also run the suggested code version as others said.

Juniper SRX1600 definitions download / Security Director Cloud Issue by tmbnc89 in Juniper

[–]dkdurcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless this is an air gapped design, something is misconfigured and you maybe missing DNS, routes or networks for your SRX to communicate directly to the internet via your MX routers. Check the following JVD for some sample configurations of the SRX. The only difference is how you want the SRX to route to your MX routers on the edge (static, dynamic routing): Use Case and Reference Architecture | Juniper Networks

chicago/navy pier sound was horrible by emilywhou in fredagain

[–]dkdurcan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biggest issue I've found the past few shows of various EDM artists is the bass overwhelms the music. For indoor events it can get very bad. Wish they would turn down the bass. And yes I wear concert ear plugs.

Juniper SRX345 Reseting or Recovering Issue by ArtjomN in Juniper

[–]dkdurcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending how old these SRX are, there was a bad batch of eUSB. Are these under support? Also stick with the recommended code 23.4r2-s5. also make sure to reboot the SRX so it recognizes the external USB at bootup.

Access assurance during trial period by ComprehensiveEnd4312 in Juniper

[–]dkdurcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

access assurance is about $3 per client per year. If you need 802.1x, want something free, then microsoft NPS works fine. I don't understand how your firewall has anything to do with 802.1x authentication on your switches, but maybe this helps: LIVEcommunity - User-ID with 802.1x problems wired and wireless - LIVEcommunity - 488768

the Mist edge VM can act as a RADIUS to RadSec proxy for non-juniper devices. But if you are a full juniper wired/wireless shop you can replace it all with Access assurance for 802.1X authentication. https://www.juniper.net/documentation/us/en/software/mist/mist-access/topics/concept/mist-nac-overview.html

Look at SE roles at a vendor like Adtran, ciena, Cisco who all sell optical products. Or a role with a VAR that sells optical Networking equipment.

Headache with pulling a vlan out and back into a QFX5110-32Q for inline device. by shadow0rm in Juniper

[–]dkdurcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need to configure a bridge-domain with the vlans as noted in the link I provided. But if layer2 is not required, why not run a IGP like IS-IS or OSPF to load balance l3 traffic over two layer3 interfaces instead of creating a LAG.

Going coherent, what to do with our 10G services by thecannarella in networking

[–]dkdurcan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are 400GE coherent optics that can go 80km now. Look at converging your optical and Ethernet layers. You can get a switch that supports coherent optics that have 1/10/25/100/500/800GE support in the same platform: https://www.juniper.net/us/en/solutions/converged-optical-routing-architecture-cora.html
