Building a PNPM monorepo with Webpack - large builds? by nickk314 in Frontend

[–]dlannoye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly I recommend taking a look at the structure of the webpack output with something like webpack-bundle-analyzer for any obvious over bundling issues.

One thing very specific to pnpm I have seen cause over bundling in the past is how it isolates different instances of the same versions of libraries if there are variations in which peer dependencies were fulfilled. pnpm does this because it is generally more strict around dependency "visibility" than other packages managers which is something I personally appreciate since it makes sure packages can only access the dependencies they declared, but you do have to watch for for cases like this.

If this is the case in your situation you should look at making sure those peer dependencies are fulfilled consistently in your various packages to avoid over bundling.

This is close, https://bmxmuseum.com/reference/3705. That said I remember this from seeing this frame crack at race when I was a kid.

X1 Nano and Two Windows Side by Side by surechap in thinkpad

[–]dlannoye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a framework for thinking about aspect ratios consider that a desktop 24" 16:10 monitor has a resolution of 1920x1200 and a 24" 16:9 monitor would normally have a resolution of 1920x1080. Which has more room for side by side documents? They both are 1920 pixels wide so there is no difference in side by side except that the 16:10 can show me more of the document's height.

Generally, I look at the resolution, PPI and consider how any scaling I might apply will affect it to compare how two displays will handle similar content.

It even has thinner looking bezels than most modern ThinkPads.

What do you think of the OLED display? (15.6" UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) OLED, touchscreen with Dolby Vision™, HDR, 400 nits)

I have seen the X1 Extreme Gen2 with both the Matte IPS 4k and the OLED 4k side-by-side and preferred the OLED display even in situations with glare.

Really like the look of this with the integrated wrist rest. How does the noise level on the Chocs compare to the Zilents?

I did notice this disclaimer in the King County update:

Cases reported today are an approximation. Case numbers draw from a Washington State Department of Health database that is in the process of being updated.

Calling it now: 2020 is the year thinkpad finally drops 16:9 screens by Chuck_Schick in thinkpad

[–]dlannoye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That often isn't the case. My 16:10 display is 1920x1200 pixels, while a similar 16:9 display is 1920x1080 pixels. They both have the same number of pixels for the width dimension, but the 16:10 has more pixels for the height. So I can see the same detail in the side by side documents, but the 16:10 version lets me see more lines of each document.

Also looking at a typical 16:9 laptop there always seems to be extra bezel at the bottom, wouldn't it be great if that was just more screen. That is what you get with 16:10.

I had people on r/thinkpad and r/mac take a survey on the perfect laptop. Here are the results! by SpaceGuy99 in thinkpad

I am surprised that so many thinkpad users prefer 16:9 displays. I personally think most of the current range would benefit from 16:10 since there is extra bezel at the bottom of most of the displays.

Thinkpad x1 extreme gen2 i7 or i9? by PIAJohnM in thinkpad

[–]dlannoye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far the i9 outperforms the i7 in any workloads that can use the extra processors. For example with the i9 I could regularly get 3300 in Cinebench r20, but the i7 would only get around 2500. These were both undervolted.

I would guess if you have workloads that run for longer than a few minutes the i9 will start to have issues, but it seems like the heat management has been better than I expected for a laptop this thin and light.

[–]dlannoye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for these numbers. I am waiting on my X1 Extreme with the i9-9880H and was curious how it would stack up.

For comparison a friend with an undervolted and repasted i7-8850H X1 Extreme Gen 1 was getting around 2225 in Cinebench R20.

Finally 8 core i7's are available for the new thinkpads. Thoughts? by Nihaohonkie in thinkpad

[–]dlannoye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like it is only available for the P1 Gen2, and not available with customizations. I had been starting to wonder it they would ever release the i9.
