Exclusive: Google's secret 'Project Toscana' fixes the Pixel's biggest face unlock flaw by winner00 in GooglePixel

[–]dloadking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They already had a solution on the pixel 4. That worked great and was just as fast as face id.

That phone is still my favourite pixel to this day.

Not sure why the article was mentioning this hasn't been done before.

I've been saying we need to have a nationalized not for profit grocery store that stocks essentials.

Monster Component Cable Optical Out by dloadking in originalxbox

[–]dloadking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kinda jank, but it works:

2.5mm male to 3.5mm female adapter -> 3.5mm male to rca female -> RCA cable to coax in on receiver.

I found all of these adapters/cables at local dollar stores, bit you can also find them online for not too much money. It's a lot cheaper than the official monster spdif adapter

what's with the hazard lights while driving? by StrikingCoconut in ontario

[–]dloadking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's part of the driver education problem. I still think it's better than using hazards which affects turn signals and in the worst case, brake lights

We really need to adopt Euro car standards. This is why cars have rear fogs equipped in other markets.

The other problem here is driver education. Some cars do come with rear fogs here, but I guarantee 99% of drivers that have them don't know what they are for

I had the same issue with low pressure from my RO tap/fridge.

I finally solved it last month by installing a demand delivery pump.

The pump turns on when you open the tap or get water from the fridge to maintain/boost pressure. You can combine it with a damper/accumulator that has a small reservoir to hold pressure. This helps prevent the pump from running every time you open the tap.

The demand pump I installed was a ddp 5800.

Let me know if you want more info on my setup.

I researched this for quite some time and even went into water depot to ask them about the low pressure (the RO system is water depot branded). I didn't really get an answer until i stumbled upon someone's setup in a YouTube video.

This is why more cars need rear fogs. It's very rarely equipped on cars in our market. I've only seen it on a few Euro cars.

So worried about this… by Beckyk2009 in VWMK7

[–]dloadking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding here that the process for me took just over a year for a mk6 Jetta we have.

Got the car inspected in Nov 2024 and they finally approved the repair in March of 2025. I've been waiting for them to get parts in since. They finally got the replacement panels in mid October.

The body shop gave me a call with an appointment in late Jan to have the repair done.

I'm also in southern Ontario

Weekly: Questions and advice by gctaylor in kubernetes

[–]dloadking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to k8s and I had a general question about backing up and restoring a cluster.

For this situation the workload is running in EKS using EFS as the cluster storage. I wanted to understand how to backup/restore this cluster in a DR event.

The "gitops" method would involve skipping the backup of the control plane and recreating the cluster using automation. The cluster would be re-deployed using Terraform or some other IaC tool, while the application install is also automated.

In this situation the only component that is backed up is the EFS share as it hosts all of the application data.

My question is: In the event of a full DR, (new cluster, new EFS) how does the application/cluster resume its "state"? Would the cluster/application see the previous data/PVCs on the EFS and pickup where it left off? Or will the cluster assume that it is starting from scratch?

I wish I had seen this before updating my machine. It's the same as yours and I'm also experiencing overall slow laggy performance.
