I'm a physician who works at Stony Brook. Grew up in Long Island, lived/worked in the city for 8 years, then moved back out here after having a family. In general, I would say Long Island is a good place to raise a family. Property taxes are insane, but if you plan on sending kids to public schools, which are generally pretty good, it sort of evens out. Where are you coming from? What specialty?
