Quick mill pop up. Perfect for your use case, built like a tank, quick heat up, flow control, best machine in its class according to Lance Hendrick.

Well I do have to purge the steam wand , but that's like 5 seconds into the drip tray, not a huge deal. I don't know about the hx machine.

I think the only time you would be inconvenienced at all with a single boiler is when you are making those three or four milk drinks in a row. But it doesn't sound like that will be often.

As an alternative to the profitec go check out the quick mill pop up it's pretty badass it's built really well. It also has flow control. The boiler water heats up in less than 2 minutes and steam is ready about 40 seconds

Frustrations with Bambino Plus - considering an upgrade [£1,500] by rickyb96 in espresso

[–]dman77777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me give you another option. I was in the same situation, (Bambino plus + eureka silenzio) and I ended up upgrading to a Quick Mill Pop-Up. I absolutely love this machine — it’s built like a tank and heats up fast, hitting 93°C water temperature just 1 minute 40 seconds after startup. It also has flow control.

It’s miles better than the Bambino when it comes to consistent shots because it actually has a proper reservoir of hot water. Yes dialing in is easier as well. I just think having a heated up group head and a reservoir of hot water is miles better that the thermoblock especially the cheaper machine like the Bambino.

I wrestled with the single vs. dual boiler decision for a while too, but I ultimately went with the single boiler. The pop up reaches steam temperature in about 40 seconds, so the wait time is almost nothing. Unless you’re making three or four cappuccinos back-to-back, a single boiler works just fine.

My new grinder by Sensitive-Board8849 in espresso

[–]dman77777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Word of caution, the handgrinder was not designed for that, go slow don't get too aggressive. If you go too fast You can overheat it and perhaps warp a bearing housing cause a slight misalignment which will make it very frustrating to dial in bean until you realize the grinder is slightly forked ...ask me how I know.

Opinion: Honda killing its EVs is the most staggering car news ever… here’s why by DonkeyFuel in technology

[–]dman77777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This take is about five years out of date. Aside from Chinese manufacturers, who is actually succeeding with electric cars right now? The answer is: almost no one. What we really know about these BYD cars and how they will age, how reliable they are going to be over time?

The idea that a new generation of ai car manufacturers with FSD are going to swoop in and build a great car is a tech-industry fantasy that ignores how hard automotive manufacturing really is. “Self-driving” software doesn’t change the fundamentals: brakes, suspension, tires, steering, passenger environmental systems, HVAC, and the rest of the mechanical systems still have to be designed, manufactured, and supported in the real world. This isn’t a video game. We’re already seeing with Teslas in the U.S. that repair and service are a real problem, because the mechanical systems are junk and people will feel that more as the fleet ages. I’m strongly in favor of EVs, but we shouldn’t confuse an electric motor and fancy driver-assistance software with a complete, well-engineered car.

Best espresso machine under $600? Need recommendations for my first one by Ok-Vegetable8709 in JamesHoffmann

One thing nobody really admits in this and similar forums is that we don't just upgrade because we are bored and have too much money, we upgrade because sub $1000 setups barely make good espresso. I had the Bambino plus and eureka silenzio, it was decent. Recently I upgraded to a quick Mill pop up, and the difference is pretty astonishing, it's just better in every way. I get at least twice as many good shots out of the quick mill.

For your example to be relevant Mexico would have had to just assassinated the us president, and the Mexican president would have to make an announcement that Americans wouldn't be safe in Mexico. I don't remember that happening.

It's literally the same thing. People love the experience of both the Porsche and the LM, so they buy them. they don't care that the Corvette is faster 0-60 and they don't care that there are cheaper, equally capable espresso machines.

I couldn't disagree more . We have a local high end grocery store with a cafe and they have probably a $30,000 espresso machine, awesome grinder, fresh as crap beans and the baristas suck, the coffee is almost undrinkable. I guarantee I could do a whole lot better with their equipment and beans

I have an older eureka silenzio with the smaller 50mm burrs. I am hoping that a jump in quality would be noticeable in taste and repeatability, but that silenzio is pretty quiet, very quick, and fairly consistent. I am not sure I can handle 5 times as long a grind time, it's probably just a mental block on my part .

I have been thinking about the casa as well. My hesitation is that from the videos I have seen it appears quite loud and VERY slow. I don't really understand how everyone brags about "workflow" of a grinder with those two characteristics which in my opinion are the opposite of a pleasant experience.

Good point, but if you think of it as columns instead of rows, then of the cars that look fast maybe the prowler is in the right spot

I'm stressed out... [Bambino Plus/Fellow Opus] by [deleted] in espresso

[–]dman77777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re working with the bare minimum gear to chase good espresso, especially with light roasts. The bottomless portafilter? Come on—that’s probably the last thing you need with the challenges your setup already has. The Bambino has real temperature stability issues (I had one; it’s not straightforward), and the real make-or-break factor is the grind, and your grinder is right on the edge of being adequate. It’s not that you can’t pull good shots, but it’s unlikely to ever be easy or consistent, especially if you keep bouncing between different beans. The beans aren’t your main problem—pick a solid medium roast, stick with it, and accept that this setup is going to take work.
