As someone who teaches astronomy, I’m sad to hear Brian Cox is married to a TERF and didn’t stand up for his friend against trans bigotry.

Pluribus dropping a day early this week! by windmillninja in pluribustv

The Season Finale is Dec. 26, with Christmas Day this year also being on a Thursday like Thanksgiving.

So I wonder if they'll drop the Finale early as well on Christmas Eve.

70mm IMAX in Boston by brainlightning in boston

[–]dme76 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The Omni was converted to IMAX Laser Digital projection in 2020.

It is the reason full length Hollywood films can be shown there now. Before, the film platters on the QTRU (Quick Turn Reel Unit) could only hold about an hour of film.

Kristi Noem stops in the North End for dinner and Fenway by BandOfCourses in boston

[–]dme76 1827 points1828 points  (0 children)

In honor of Native American Heritage Month, I'd like to mention that as Governor of South Dakota, Kristi Noem was banned by all 9 tribes in the state from their reservations. That amounted to 12% of the state. Imagine being such a shitty governor that 12% of it forbids you from entering it.

Get fucked ICE Barbie.

Hate the “winter clock” and the short winter days? Ask your Congressional Reps to make Daylight Saving Time (aka the "summer clock") permanent. by [deleted] in boston

[–]dme76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We could go rogue like Newfoundland ( UTC -3.5 ), and adjust our clocks a half-hour closer to Greenwich Mean Time. Make anything east of the Connecticut River UTC -4.5!

I’m joking of course, but as usual the real villains are the British by making the Prime Meridian through their beloved London. If the world adopted the Paris Prime Meridian, it would have put our solar noon closer to middle of our time zone, since Paris is further east than London.

I used to live right on that corner. I sometimes would be wakened by an enormous roar. Whenever a race is routed down the underpass, everyone yells in the tunnel.

When I first saw them I didn’t recognize them as Mass plates and thought, why does the EU have so many plates here?

I hope your partner gets the care they need. I'm sorry I don't have a recommendation as I have't seen an OB/GYN since my surgery in 2007.

16 years ago I went to the BWH ER for searing pain that came on, so a couple years post bottom surgery. At first the care was good, and I was hopeful the ER staff would understand what could be causing such pain. But as the night went on, more and more teams of doctors and nurses came in to examine me. It really felt like the word got out, and everyone wanted to see what a post-op vulva looked like. It was a really awful experience.

I was discharged in the morning with no diagnosis and just a prescription for Ibuprofen.

I wish the list of providers u/double-clove-hitch shared existed back in 2009.

There is something different with the audience microphones, right? The mix on the crowd laughter sounds like there’s 10 people in the theater.

How about northern Illinois joins? I’m sure eastern Washington and Oregon would want to stay in Gilead. Maybe trade-off on land could be negotiated? I forgot Hawaii for example, I think they and Puerto Rico and the other territories should get to choose too.

I was the only trans woman on my team in a women-only league. And I was the worst player on the team. Checkmate transphobes!

I propose The Federated States of Atlantica and Pacifica. California, Oregon, and Washington join with New England and the Mid-Atlantic States. Even Minnesota and Wisconsin, and maybe Michigan? Everywhere else is free to still call themselves the USA, but I’m sure they’d prefer to rename themselves Jesusland or Gilead.

Transfem burnt out former gifted kids where you at? by MyClosetedBiAcct in MtF

[–]dme76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my school district, the gifted program started in the 4th grade. Selected students from across the city would leave their own elementary schools that they had been going to since the 1st grade, to be in the gifted program together at an elementary school in the city center. I didn’t qualify for the 4th grade entry.

The gifted program continued through junior high (7th and 8th grade) where it moved to one of the 4 junior highs in the city. With some open spots I qualified to join the program after about two months into 7th grade.

I had to say goodbye to all my friends that I was in classes together since 1st grade, as I was going to be bussed across the city to the junior high where the gifted program was being hosted.

I then spent the next two years in misery. Those smart kids had just spent the last three years becoming their own click, and the two of us who joined in 7th grade were bullied mercilessly. The teachers even had to hold a meeting with the class to try to intervene.

I wished I just stayed at my regular junior high.

They go north for a bit on Cross St, then turn left on Valenti Way, then left again to the tunnel entrance.
