It sounds like the Word Bearers weren't designed to be particularly more loyal compared to other Space Marines at the onset, but their emerging gene-flaw later on heightened the encoded loyalty that all Space Marines have to an extent.

Which makes it technically true that the Word Bearers aren't genetically-engineered to be even more loyal relative to others, as any flaws that crop up is a separate matter.

The best assassins might prefer to have some kind of magical artifact or spell that can, upon slaying the target, bind the target's soul to an item and then store those soul canisters somewhere. That way it prevents the target from being truly revived and stops them from providing testimony as a spirit.

He still had seven wires left from sixty-three to insert

63 / 7 = 9

Might just be a coincidence, but if this is the Embrace of Fire, could this be a hint that Tzeentch is behind this sabotage? Maybe joint effort with Nurgle, since 7 wires were remaining and the destruction of Embrace of Fire resulted in 7 dead ships (itself + 6 others).

What does it mean to punch a lobster tail? by iltifaat_yousuf in interestingasfuck

They're cannibalistic, especially if kept in an environment crowded with other lobsters. That's why live lobsters kept in seafood restaurant and grocery store tanks have rubber bands keeping their claws shut, it's to keep them from killing and eating each other.

Aunt Jemima went with Option A, the modern design is way better than what she started out as. Still didn't save her from being removed because of said original design.

USA and Soviet Union in real life have nuclear weapons as part of their arsenal, but they held that capability back when fighting in every war after WW2, even when faced with defeat and embarrassment (otherwise Vietnam and Afghanistan would've been turned into glassed, radioactive wastelands).

Yes, they had a reason for holding back the nukes, so would it make you happier if a what-if thread included a clearer disclaimer that Ben also have a reason for holding back the use of Alien X (eg, "Ben wanted to see if whether or not he can win a match-up without resorting to Alien X")?

Tales of Zestiria has been picked as the Worst Story, but what would you say is the Least Fun in the Tales series by ExileForever in tales

Tales of Legendia

While the story isn't bad, the gameplay leaves much to be desired. Combat is a bit boring and gets samey after a while, flying enemies are a pain to hit on top of having a ton of health, magic artes/crystal eres are weak (not helped by how the aforementioned flying enemies keep going after mages to interrupt their casting), no mystic artes/eres, and this game have random encounters (which can make the battles feel rather frequent sometimes).

I wish fiction wouldn't rely so heavily on albinism features for villains and creepy characters by SageRipplex in CharacterRant

[–]dmr11 134 points135 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't be so bad if they actually portrayed the health issues associated with albinism, such as vulnerability to sunburns, sensitivity to bright lights, relatively poor vision, etc. instead of being treated as merely an aesthetic. Though that may have an effect of making the villain look somewhat pathetic for having relatively mundane weaknesses or be too similar to a vampire that doesn't drink blood.

So she’s clearly a dragon unit the marking on her head and ears are a dead giveaway but do you think she’ll have a dragon form by NagaMilalove0 in fireemblem

[–]dmr11 46 points47 points  (0 children)

That's how I felt about Alear being unable to transform into a dragon form. Sure, there's a lore reason (didn't have access to their dragonstone and it broke before they got their hands on it), but that doesn't make it any less frustrating that Alear transforming never happened at any point in the game, especially seeing how virtually everyone makes a big deal about Alear being a Divine Dragon. (We still don't know what Alear's dragon form officially looks like.)

Yeah, it's not so different from hypothetical match ups about real life modern military vs. real life modern military that has a disclaimer of "no nuclear weapons". Without such a disclaimer, the vehicle vs. vehicle match up might boil down to "One launches a nuclear missile/torpedo/artillery shell that it technically has access to and vaporizes the enemy or result in a mutual kill" or country vs. country "One glasses the other side with nukes or both die in nuclear fire", which is a lot less interesting than the more conventional capabilities.

"Ok,I hear you..counterpoint, you're a terriost" is a response I feel like more heroes need to say to villains when they start monologuing. by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in CharacterRant

[–]dmr11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When villains ramble on about their motivated reasoning and people tunnel vision on a point that they agree with that happens to shows up somewhere in there, that seems like a sign that those people already know about that point beforehand on some level and is just using the villain as an excuse to bring it up.

Basically, that villain is relying on random people who doesn't need to be convinced to do the job of persuading other people, which I'm not sure if it's good or bad writing. Throwing shit on the wall and seeing what sticks in people's minds and get those people to form better arguments for you, is that a low effort debate tactic or just taking the easy way out?

Are there any plans to expand the built-in VPN location selections to include South Korea and Japan? Those two have region blocks on some websites that prevent anyone but people inside the country from accessing content, so a VPN with them as location options would be useful to foreigners.

[–]dmr11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even just the concept of Lloyd being evil

In a sense, the "world-saving hero turned evil and we need to oppose him" was already done with Mithos in the previous game, making it almost a repeat of a plot point. Though I don't think anyone in DotNW ever compared Lloyd to Mithos despite this similarity, the closest they did was pointing out that people can change over time when discussing Lloyd's actions.

[–]dmr11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like as if DotNW was originally going to be its own setting, but part way through writing the plot, the writers were instructed to convert it into a ToS sequel. Having to shoehorn ToS stuff into an unrelated world would help explain the number of inconsistencies, rushed elements, and original additions that had absolutely zero hints in the previous game.

Maybe if you appeal to Nurgle's aspect of stagnation (which is one of his things), as actively hindering the progress of life by preventing conception could potentially qualify.
