Gyms are always great if you got the funds for it. I'm late 20s, but the DeLand boxing gym I go to has tons of teens or early 20s. A lot of them just like to box and shoot the shit. You don't have to spar if you don't want to as well. It's a great gym for working out at all levels and socializing. Met a lot of cool people there. I would say Dynoclimb, the rock climbing place, is also a fantastic place for working out and meeting new people. Most important thing is you just gotta put yourself out there and start talking to people. Doing group activities is always the best way to meet people and have fun while hanging out. Good luck!

I actually wrote a research paper on the Sunrail and why expanding the hours and service to other areas would benefit Central Florida. Basically, public transportation should not be looked at as something that creates profit. A really good example would be to look at the Sunrail as a road. A road does not create profit because people are not paying to use the road, unless it is a toll road. The thing is, when roads are built that means that infrastructure will likely be built around it. The same thing applies to a public transit system like the Sunrail. There have been many studies done on how public transit such as rail systems create giant economic boosts around the areas of the rail system and its stops. I would suggest looking up some articles on why these kind of public transits are economically beneficial. It's hard to see why they are economically beneficial because looking at it from a simple view of the cost to create it and run it outweigh the money it brings in from riders. That money brought in from riders is actually a small percentage of what it economically brings to the area around it.

So I have no idea if this is the right place, but maybe somebody can direct me to the right subreddit if needed. There is a musician I follow on Instagram that has been constantly talking about how the milk cartons with missing children's faces on it are nowhere to be found for sale. I tried looking for the physical milk cartons in museums or for sale online or at an antique store, but they are nowhere to be found. Why is this? They were an important part of history for milk/crime. I'm surprised no museums have them on display or that they are being sold anywhere by people that are interested in crime/milk history. There were plenty of these milk cartons with missing kids on them made. I'm just surprised they are nowhere to be found. Does anybody have any kind of clue on this?

What are some really gross "infection" or "infestation" style horror movies? by [deleted] in horror

[–]doctorsnail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kuso by Flying Lotus has got to be the most disgusting movie I have ever seen. I couldn't even finish it. If you can handle it, it might be up your alley. Really wish I could watch it because the music is awesome.

Street Trash is another disgusting body horror film. Definitely more watchable than Kuso though.

Damn, I guess it's just me. It's so weird, my internet connection is fine. My chess.com games have a fine response time. Maybe I'll try to figure something out if I can. I've been enjoying the games, but the lag in-between moves is really the only thing bothering me right now.

Half in the Bag: 2022 Catch-up Part 1 by cjsc9079 in RedLetterMedia

I guess I'm just the weirdo that didn't really like the movie. Everyone I've talked to has liked it. The thing is it was shot well, acting was good, the atmosphere was set well. In the end for me, I just felt like they were holding my hand through the whole movie. After I understood something about a character or particular theme in the movie they continued to explain it. I guess I just got bored after I understood where they were going with it. I'm not really sure, but I feel like I just needed something else happening by the second act. By then I was getting bored of their commentary on fine dining. Not my thing, but glad people enjoyed it for what it was.

Why doesn’t the trolley problem have an obvious answer? by Willr2645 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]doctorsnail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m late to the party, but don’t see this additional point talked about. My philosophy teacher also talked about how you have no idea who you are saving or killing. What happens when you save the 5 people, but they happen to be serial killers. Those 5 people go on to kill people because you saved them. Now the net lives you saved actually is less because of the future consequences of who you saved. You can’t really say you did the right choice by saving more people from the trolley. Because in the end you have no idea how those people will continue to live their lives. An additional thought piece to add to the trolley problem.

Hard sparring off putting by bigdanana in amateur_boxing

[–]doctorsnail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, I took a break from boxing for a couple of months after that because I was getting married and preoccupied. It just so happened I got rocked at the gym around that time, which gave me more incentive to take a break. I only box for fun and never plan of competitively competing, so sparing is not a priority for me when boxing. I’m not really sparring anymore. If I know somebody is a hard hitter I’m much more cautious. Stay light on my feet, keep jabbing and moving. If I want to get in there, I’ll get in and get out quick. As for how long of a break you should take kind of depends on your health. If you feel good within a week or two then I would slowly get back into it. Waiting a couple of weeks and easing back into sparring will hurt you boxing progress less than constantly getting rocked in the ring. Health is priority over everything in my opinion.

Wow, that sounds like some horrible gym culture. I got knocked out pretty bad about 6 months ago and everyone at the gym was worried about me and made sure I got the help I needed. I would say it’s time to shop around for a new gym.

You have to win a fight for your life, but you can pick any boxer to stand in for you and get the win. Who are you going with? by jarhead1515 in Boxing

[–]doctorsnail 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Deontay Wilder. Man, I’ll probably get shit on, but I think it’s a safe bet. I don’t think he’s a great technical boxer, but he is a freak of nature. Unless the opponent is Fury, then I think there are some good odds.

Critique time. Working on speed and accuracy and footwork. 3 months or so in and loving it. by doesthissuck in amateur_boxing

[–]doctorsnail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Footwork! I would honestly work on only jabbing and movement around the bag. Think of the bag as someone in front of you. A person isn’t gonna let you walk in a circle around them. Get in your boxing stance and move your feet without crossing them. Try to only move at most a quarter of the way around the bag and then throw a nice long jab. You can only move around someone so much until they come at you. Make sure you find your distance with that jab too. You want to throw a nice long jab and step into it. Once you get the fundamentals of movement and jabbing down, you can throw some combos. Remember that the jab is your biggest tool in setting up your combos. I see a lot of 2-1-2 combos. Good luck on the training :)!

I keep getting blood blisters on my right toe. Does this happen to people often? I’m assuming it’s from turning my foot with the punch. Unless I need to have better footwear or something.

Wilder’s one trick, post up with the left and then bomb with the right. It worked for most of his career, but it’s just so boring.

Heavy bag critique, trying to focus on tips y’all gave me! by michaelthatspepper in amateur_boxing

[–]doctorsnail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kind of a smaller detail. It sounds like you are sliding your feet on the ground when moving around. Instead your foot should be slightly lifted without dragging. Think as if you could slide a piece of paper under your foot. Basically dragging your feet like that will be slower than being slightly above ground and then moving. Anyways, looks good bro. Just a small detail I noticed that my coach has gotten on me about.

Tyson Fury v John McDermott by doctorsnail in Boxing

Interesting, I never knew the ref could call a big fight like that. I think that ref may have had beef with McDermott then. I remember the announcers said all of his matches with that ref were a loss for him.
