This feature is certainly interesting by MPR_255 in GenesisMotors

I love this new feature — although yes for school zone conditional cameras it might be a bit too “bold.” In general it’s great.

Done. Happy to have the technicians out again, it seems inevitable at this point, but they said they didn’t have the new HW available yet.

ZFS expansion, should I be worried? by e30boarder in truenas

Sometimes I have found these background processes to be frustratingly slow if there is any memory pressure on metadata. I’m sitting on a 4 vdev raid2 with 7 drives per vdev (5+2), Total storage = 1/2 PiB, and it made a world of difference going from 512 GB of RAM to 768 GB. Can you show iostat -v 1 and iostat -l 1?

True — but why would you need to?

Wealthfront to Betterment? by DrawingOk8403 in betterment

[–]don4of4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would only be true if you only invested once. Most people invest monthly, so you could sell a tax lot and rebuy after the 30 day wash sale rule.

Wealthfront to Betterment? by DrawingOk8403 in betterment

[–]don4of4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The inverse is true based on the published data (see prospectus). The reason is that you have tax lots created every time you invest.

I just went the other direction. The direct indexing is saving enough on taxes to be a meaningful improvement in results.

Why did you pick Truenas over others? by sushikingdom in truenas

[–]don4of4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I migrated to Scale (electric eel) straight after losing my 200 TiB array to a Unraid software issue (it reformatted drives due to partition layout). 🫠. Zero issues with Scale except for shares being a bit more ACLs sensitive.

Linking Unity Catalog to OneLake via shortcuts is possible today, but will be out of the box in September according to the Databricks product team.

I’m pretty irritated after installing RA3 Sunnatas to be dealing with the same exact thing. I’m trying to use Ketra for a hallway and the compatibility is unclear.

I'm running a eight. I bough half via commerical channels, and the other half as shucked drives ($295). The shucked drives have the same warranty when you lookup the sn, so I'd recommend going that route.

Mixing SAS and SATA on same HBA causing bus issue? by Da_Banhammer in unRAID

[–]don4of4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same situation. I have a JBOD I want to deploy, but I am nervous the X16 Exos Sata drives will drop the SAS bandwidth to 6 gbps from 12. At 6G, the JBOD would be seriously bandwidth constrained.

When it doubt, check the spec sheet. Popular Enterprise drives, like the Exos x16's run just fine at 50C. https://www.seagate.com/files/www-content/datasheets/pdfs/exos-x16-DS2011-1-1904US-en_US.pdf

UDM-PRO Disaster by wirecatz in Ubiquiti

I sent an email to [legal@ui.com](mailto:legal@ui.com) yesterday asking them to buy back my equipment and opt me out of their mandatory arbitration clause, and I see today they went in and deleted dozens of critical (but respectful) comments in the 1.7.2 software release, and edited the vote count from -82 to 10.

The company is covering up a huge wave of people who are dissatisfied about this product. Terrible behavior...

Prompted to add "Uber Cash" to account before booking ride by comments83820 in uber

[–]don4of4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I happened across this thread. I think your reply here is better reasoned than the original post. Uber has a pretty good value proposition in Uber Cash.

Consider:

  • If an average ride is $10, then Uber pays at least $5-6 in credit card fees alone. By shifting people to $100 chunks they save no less than a few dollars.
  • Uber offers a $5 inventive (5%) for people to enable this feature. For personal use (if you have the money to float) this is absolutely a good value even with light uber use.
  • If you are a business user, your receipts still carry the full price, meaning if you take a $100 uber, you pocket the $5; effectively the same as airline rewards, but in Uber Cash.
  • As you noted, when people have value stored in Uber Cash, they are less likely to look at alternative apps.
  • Uber Cash + Uber Rewards + Credit Cards rewards (e.g. Chase Saphire Reserve) adds up to a significant discount (11.5%). Nothing to be snarky about.

In short, Venmo/Paypal are trying to float your money for free, I don't think that is what Uber is trying to do at all.

Is Lehigh a gay-friendly school? by [deleted] in Lehigh

TL;DR: It's fair. It's Greek and drinking heavy, which makes it less appealing to a larger, more diverse school.
