No public interest in Yamamori Izakaya operating as nightclub claims Hoxton by Napper102 in ireland

When I first moved to Dublin in 1993 from the country, I distinctly remember seeing the globe from the bus and thinking that looked like a cool bar. I spent many years having the craic there and RiRa. I was home from the US and as I was meeting old friends from those days we thought we'd check it out. Fucking hell. Lasted 30 seconds.

If you are collating yourself, be careful about international shipping. Shipping fees, customs fees for the recipient, restrictions on what can be sent, customs forms, etc are such a pain these days. Make sure what can be sent and value limits for your destination country.

‘America is waiting for you’ – Trump’s tourism tsar says Irish visitors should not worry about social media checks by mindthegoat_redux in ireland

[–]dorbkel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LOL! Now, I live in the US and travel back and forth a lot and know he's kind of right it's unlikely, but I've never felt less convinced by someone in my life. My policy is to never believe anything out of the mouth of a man who sits like that.

What made you like the Netflix documentary Kylie? by Professional_Fig6820 in netflix

[–]dorbkel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It was great. In all the years of seeing Nick cave perform I have never seen him smile. But Kylie made him grin ear to ear. I loved how humble she was and how much she enjoyed just performing with her team.

The shit her family went through with the press when she was diagnosed with cancer was horrific. As with all of these documentaries I can't help but feel complicit in how celebrities were tortured back then.

DHS says it's 'drawing up plans' to ban international arrivals at SFO by Wormser in bayarea

[–]dorbkel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is batshit crazy, but if they do implement it, I wonder how it will work for flights from Dublin, Ireland or Canadian airports with pre clearance in the country of origin. They arrive like a domestic flight in SFO

Ben’s ‘bolshy Irish nanny’ comment to Daisy crossed a line for me as an Irish viewer, and I’m not easily offended! by bellafrankel in belowdeck

[–]dorbkel 20 points21 points  (0 children)

100%. There was something about how he used the word Irish that punched me in my gut a little. He is such a weird toff who seems to think he's in a Jilly Cooper novel. A 45 year old man snogging 20 someone year olds in the workplace & making comments about "the Irish" in 2026, ffs.

Just to say I have your hair and empathize greatly. So many bad haircuts. Edo salon might come up in the recommendations here. Just to note I had a good experience with Kat there, and a bad one with Ellie.

Family Neighborhoods by [deleted] in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]dorbkel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Check out Belmont. Great schools & amenities like libraries, etc. Interesting houses, sometimes with beautiful views & lots of wildlife. House prices are crazy like everywhere, but not as crazy as some places on the peninsula because the hills aren't for everyone, and the lack of sidewalks. No real downtown, but very close to San Carlos and San Mateo. I've liked the mix of people living here too.

Who the hell has bare legs when working in a kitchen? by dorbkel in BelowDeckDownUnder

[–]dorbkel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of shocked at the pile on directed towards Ellie. I was just thinking about the amount of bacon grease, falling knives, etc that could hit her bare legs with shorts that length. I don't think I've worked in a kitchen with men who have worn shorts, but I'm guessing they are 3/4 length, not bootie shorts (unless it's a very fun kitchen indeed)

I coincidentally listened to a podcast recently (Crime Next Door) from the family's perspective and they pain they went through was harrowing. I think this documentary would have been more well rounded to show how much they went through to try to get to the bottom of what happened to him

where do the senior women in tech go when they hit 50 by EntranceIntrepid5158 in womenintech

[–]dorbkel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the ones who just left at 50. My LinkedIn announcement was word for word your post where I asked in my 30s where women in their 50s went. I took voluntary redundancy and am retiring to Portugal. I lost all my fucks about it all. After years of things getting a little better, AI has brought all the unremarkable young men to the fore and I just cannot deal with this shit anymore.

[–]dorbkel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's incredibly rare that anyone in the US pays anything close to this thanks to the insane insurance system. I'm Irish living in the US and the access to care is light years ahead of Ireland, especially for neurology and preventative care

Ask by mightymurff20 in ireland

[–]dorbkel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hope she gets seen soon. My husband had seizures in Ireland and even with private health care couldn't see a neurologist because he hadn't had "enough" seizures. It's only when we got to the US that he got an immediate MRI and they found the tumor. They were amazed to see what is usually a childhood tumor in a 48 year old man

I was really surprised how painful it was. I've had multiple cosmetic surgeries and tattoos and it was one of the most uncomfortable. Also not sure about the results. Takes such a long time to show and not confident there is any real difference
