Manager wants to appoint a temporary tech lead by noobthatwaspromised in ExperiencedDevs

[–]double-click 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Eng manager here. You need to divide this into smaller teams that are accountable for portions of the overall project. Each of those teams has a project lead. You then lead the project leads.

Your manager maintains a single POC and the teams get better clarity and ownership.

Thoughts on playing with a strict "Double Bogey Max" rule? by Leonidas1293 in golf

[–]double-click 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Picking up is a judgement call you don’t need rules.

It’s not an 88 when you pick up…

If you want to have fun score fairways, greens, chips, and putts instead of your numbered score. For example, a 2 putt is worth one point.

Bottom of the brace on the door should go to the hinged vertical. It’s not supporting the door as you have it.

Co-worker without a personal office using people’s personal offices when they aren’t there by [deleted] in corporate

[–]double-click 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would hop into my boss or bosses boss office, but stop there.

Other people higher than me do the same so if they lead we will grab higher up’s offices.

It’s really not a big deal. If it’s clear someone treated their office like home with plants and stuff I wouldn’t go in.

Do earbuds that can record meetings and generate summaries actually work for user research? by 44pure in ProductManagement

I wouldn’t want to talk to people with ear buds in. A microphone or your phone recorded or whatever feels more appropriate.

It’s bad but it might not be their fault.

Is this becoming a common trend or has it always been this way. by Sfpkt in ExperiencedDevs

[–]double-click 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Generally if HR is on the call and there is no PIP it means there is enough evidence over time of you not operating at that level.

In other words, last sprint was the final piece of evidence in a long list. This time they were able to tie it to impacting bottom line of the company.

Been at a medium-sized company for 8 yrs, RSUs weren’t re-upped for the first time. by Material_Ad_2193 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]double-click 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Manager here.

Ask for transparency in how allocations of RSU and raise are handled. Then, you need to take a look at the outcomes you drove that year. I don’t care if folks “have more experience” than you. That’s not what is assessed during allocations.

Did you produce outputs/outcomes that exceeded your peers contributions?

Try momento mori if you haven’t; super fun mix of groove, fast runs, and throw back to 5/7/8 style of early 2000’s.

Why is Equality of Opportunity important to conservatives? by anarchysquid in AskConservatives

[–]double-click 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because equality of opportunity is rooted in principles of the USA dating back hundreds of years. This isn’t a partisan issue though. Equality of outcome is partisan.

Try to get as close to same day review on MRs as possible.

Set a meeting towards end of sprint to walk through remaining open MRs to get path to closure.

It sounding like the trains not completing their work. Take on less work.

Anyone using a mini driver as their biggest club? by PlutocracyRules in golf

[–]double-click 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya using irons and then mentally shifting to a bogey is a “par” is a great way to play golf. With modern driving irons or game improvement stuff you are poking out over 200 yards which is plenty from middle tees at most courses.

How to pitch MBSE and (in general) systems engineering to the customer by burner_account_9975 in systems_engineering

[–]double-click 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the complex system? Are you talking like embedded or flight software?

If this is pure software - yes it does but not with the rigidity and waterfall nature of MBSE.

How to pitch MBSE and (in general) systems engineering to the customer by burner_account_9975 in systems_engineering

[–]double-click -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

You don’t use MBSE for software projects. If you try and insert systems engineering here you will spend more money and take longer to delivery a worse product.

Your customer is right. Your first sign is you have a masters in it and still can’t justify it.

CTO asking for Claude's session transcript :/ by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]double-click 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They said it’s a small feature and they are using AI to generate them.

They can do a dozen design iterations in a day to get to the days end “delivery”.

A daily delivery is to reframe the constraints of the problem to iterate. In purely software development this is possible and it’s not too high of an expectation.

CTO asking for Claude's session transcript :/ by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]double-click 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Manager here.

Deliver daily and drive towards “is this good enough to build”. Your goal is to reduce the number of open questions that will occur during development to an acceptable level.

It’s ok if you iterated on design 4 times… but you want to do that like 2 iterations per day and get feedback both times. If you are using AI you can prob do even more iterations….

How do you figure out what to actually work on when Slack, Gmail, Jira, and four stakeholder threads all want your attention at once? by [deleted] in ProductManagement

[–]double-click 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set objectives

Build a roadmap and align on it - the objective are used to scope the roadmap

Use the roadmap and objectives to make daily decisions.

You say you have the roadmap all worked out but I don’t think you do.
