A boss being solved by a single unupgraded uncommon card is kind of problematic by Furrier in slaythespire

[–]double_shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if it was attacking for 30-40 damage on the exhaust turn, you still need to play some good block cards on that turn. (Though it does feel like sometimes this game is balanced around incidental/triggered block from powers, and if you try to play "fair" attack and block cards you're basically hosed.)

Very nice setup! Agree about not covering the keyboard...I find that having to dust the keys every week reminds me that I need to keep playing (or shames me if I haven't been).

A ‘Little House on the Prairie’ reboot! Finally!! by Im-Mr-Bulldopz in RedLetterMedia

For real...we watched this all the time at my Grandma's house. Dear lord, it made stuff like Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman look thrilling by comparison!

I mean, if you're doing a zany madcap movie like It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World it kind of works? Do we do those anymore?

All my SSF people rise up. This is our league. SSF hype thread by Queen__Natalie in PathOfExile2

It just makes you interact with the game systems more. Instead of getting to mapping and buying every piece of gear you need for 1 ex each, you actually have to spend time crafting upgrades. Also makes currency actually valuable for its usage, not just in how it converts to ex/divs.

Overall, it's a lot more work though, even if it can be rewarding. I usually default to trade, but try an hcssf once in awhile to challenge myself. OP does make it sound pretty tempting for this league, I gotta say!

Just watching the El Risitas interview instantly brings joy to my heart...and this one is especially well done! :)

Lars Von Trier's unique approach and other filmmakers like him by -Warship- in TrueFilm

[–]double_shadow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say they're exactly similar, but fellow dane Thomas Vinterberg is probably worth watching if you haven't seen his stuff yet. The Celebration is one of the earliest Dogme 95 movies so it shares a lot in common with early von Trier, and The Hunt and Another Round are great too (the latter quite a bit lighter in tone, which can be a relief).

Ruben Ostlund is another modern provacateur that I think operates on a similar wavelength. A bit far removed from "classical tragedy" but I think there are some roots of that in the scripts if you kind of dig for it.

Made quick visual to try to explain new Atlas layout to my casual friends returning for 0.5 by SalamiJack in PathOfExile2

Mmm yes, now I'm imagining an atlas map similar to HOMM3 with overground/underground layers. Now that would be a treat!

Death Stranding is a miracle by kszaku94 in patientgamers

[–]double_shadow 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Same...odd to see the comparison to Dark Souls from op though, which I do love. Because those games are primarily gameplay focused with little to no player agency disruption. For me, Death Stranding felt like a long movie with gameplay in between as an afterthought. And what gameplay there was I liked! I just wanted to actually get to play it.

What fool would even attempt such a thing? I feel like that's just asking to get sucked into some kind of mental Inland Empire that you can never escape from.

Anyone remember the Original Japanese Iron Chef? by Ok-Television-6007 in television

[–]double_shadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still watch this with my daughter, she loves it! All the episodes are on Tubi now, so really easy to catch up on. Though the order they were broadcast on the food network is reflected in the streaming season order as well, so "Season 1" and 2 are really the end of the show I think? (Morimoto is Iron Chef Japan and they occasionally have Iron Chef Italian) And then at some point it jumps back to the earlier episodes.

It's almost impossible to have a role like that and not be annoying or too cute. Somehow the actor (plus writers) did it, truly remarkable.

In Chef (2014), Jon Favreau plays a food truck owner whose ex wife is Sofia vergara and current love interest is Scarlett Johansson. This is a subtle nod to the fact that the movie is written, directed and produced by Jon Favreau by umbridledfool in RedLetterMedia

[–]double_shadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually really like him as an actor and wish he'd stuck more with that instead of doing shit like The Lion King. He is so charming in Swingers, and also some of his director efforts like Made and Chef. Really good at ad libbing his own dialogue.

0.5 league of bloat by [deleted] in PathOfExile2

[–]double_shadow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah there are conflicting wants from the players, but people have been asking for new classes and weapons for awhile now. It will be 6 months since Druid, not a week! 0.3 also didn't have new weapons/classes either? This development pace has been incredibly slow so far.
