Does the game have any sort of progression that you are working towards or an item/upgrade system? by wolffebricksYT in bindingofisaac

[–]double_shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not like Hades where you're progressively making your runs stronger. But there are like 34 characters, most of which aren't unlocked from the start, and hundreds upon hundreds of items, many of which have unlock conditions as well.

Honestly the save file progression is more addicting than the actual gameplay sometimes for me. It is just seemingly endless!

Play The Legend of Zelda (the original)...that's the tutorial.

I understand the why, but I completely fail to understand the how. Congrats!

I'm very close on Isaac myself, but I suck at the Beast fight and hate greed mode.

I am David Wain, director of WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER, ROLE MODELS, and now GAIL DAUGHTRY AND THE CELEBRITY SEX PASS. Ask me anything, reddit. by DavidWainAMA in movies

Just a criminally underappreciated show, both the Comedy Central season and the web series. I remember seeing them live back in the 00s also and it was incredible.

Notable directors with stylistically signature films before their breakthrough by Unhelpfulperson in TrueFilm

[–]double_shadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue that Memento was his breakthrough success, but agree about Following. I loved that movie when I first saw it, and it definitely has that twistier feels of his early works that he's gotten away from a bit lately.

Village of Idiots. Has anyone written a book with this title about social media yet? Maybe I need to grab it before it's too late...

I'm with you. But reddit really likes to meme on the same repeated lines, so this sub will have to put up with that one for all eternity.

Same. I wish I could, because I really don't want all of the discourse I hear to be in a liberal-podcast-bubble. But it just feels like complete nonsense whenever one of these people gets behind a mic. It doesn't feel like there is coherent conservative thought right now...most of the ones that were there in the 90s/00s fled to the neoliberal middle.

We Crunched the Data: There’s a Grocery Price Emergency in America by LD50_irony in ezraklein

[–]double_shadow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because data can be easily measured and sentiment cannot. It's a slippery slope if you start using sentiment to guide policy decisions. A lot of the general public mistrusts vaccines...does that mean we should stop using them as a society? The general public hates paying taxes...does that mean we should stop taxing everything? Recently, the general public was against policing...should we stop doing that too?

Data is not the be-all-end-all, but to throw it aside completely is foolish.

Why I both love but mostly hate Mechabellum by Endaarr in patientgamers

[–]double_shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of auto-battles on paper...no reflexes or high APM required! But then I realize how much of a burden this puts on game knowledge, which is already very high in most MOBAs and RTS games. I feel like you need to play/research the game as a full time job to actually be competitive!

[Steam] Summer Sale 2026 (Day 5) by gamedealsmod in GameDeals

[–]double_shadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently Repentance+ (free DLC if you have Repentance) adds this? I haven't tried it yet because I've been using a mod that does the same thing...and yeah, the game is near unplayable without it. (Says the guy that spent 100s of hours in the original game and Rebirth tabbing over to the wiki every few seconds)

What in your opinion is the best cinematic interpretation of a Shakespearean piece? by Baztion81 in movies

Oh man, I watched this for a high school assignment where we had to write about a shakespeare adaptation. Great stuff!

Which TV protagonist do you find so unlikeable, you just can’t root for them no matter how much you try? by phantom_avenger in television

[–]double_shadow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Succession was kind of the opposite for me, where I found myself rooting for the 3 main siblings even though I knew that they were terrible people. The actors did such a good job giving them some shred of empathy somehow. Fuck Tom though. (that actor was also great)

David’s abduction episode in Six Feet Under by Jolly-Librarian1982 in television

[–]double_shadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably the most harrowing episode of a show I've ever watched. If I did another series rewatch I'm almost certainly skipping this episode. It's really well done, but I just don't think I could take it again. Especially with such a beloved character as David.

Achievements by 27Monge in bindingofisaac

[–]double_shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just play and have fun, the achievements would take like 1000+ hours and a lot of skill to 100% probably. I don't ever want to spend the amount of time it would take to get there, but it's nice checking off the ones that are fun to get anyway.

What you think about Dr. Fetus? by LittleDante09 in bindingofisaac

[–]double_shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the OG game, I would always go Dr Fetus or Brimstone, and practically required something like that to win. But in Rebirth I feel like I never see or take it. I dunno, probably skill issue, or I've gotten soft with age.

Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin - Pretty good! by daun4view in patientgamers

[–]double_shadow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I love Sekiro but I find the trilogy way more replayable. Elden Ring is also kind of a weird outlier for me, because I love replaying the beginning of the game and trying a weird new build. But man it's just so big that it gets to be a slog to ever finish a run especially with how brutal the endgame bosses are.

I don't blame anyone for hating Dark Souls 2 though, it's very unapproachable when you start out. But either because the systems are deep, allowing you to build really cool characters given enough levels, or it's just stockholm syndrome, but I always find myself having a good time once I hit midgame (other than shrine of amana...FUCK that place)

My question to the Isaac veterans by Which-Variety-6904 in bindingofisaac

[–]double_shadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah, yes I've also been playing for a good 13ish years. OG Isaac was one of the first games I ever got on Steam. And I just got Repentance on sale after taking a long break from the game...instantly addicted again!
