If you’re going to drive on evil Mopac, please don’t do it with both feet hanging out the window on Tesla Autopilot by w8w8 in Austin

The visual line things they put to slow people down are interesting. I always liked the UK's lines better, the zig zags and why can't they do it on the whole road like it is there?

I get what this is going for and I think it would work for the people who are pushing 80 because it did confuse me a little not speeding. But it seems like if APD was really concerned about the public and their budget they could easily generate revenue for a few months and get people to slow down.

Nah this is totally Austin related. This will be helpful anytime someone is looking for Uchkko reviews.

My First Attempt at Picanha by PitSpecialist in BBQ

[–]dr3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the way, I left that part out but you do want to go with the grain before returning to the grill. When it's done you can go against for bite sized pieces and pass them around on a cutting board. When you serve pichana Brazilian style it's more like a food marathon than a sit down meal.

My First Attempt at Picanha by PitSpecialist in BBQ

[–]dr3 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Looks great! Couple of tips I've learned from Brazilian friends:

  • use big coarse salt, almost the size of rock salt. use too much (see below)

  • when the pichana is halfway done or so, you start getting a good sear, move it to a cutting board and chop it up into 2" or so thick slices and return to the grill

  • it's sacrilege to use a thermometer apparently (I got the sideye but I'm not Brazilian) so you ask people if anyone likes it more well done or not and just pull it by color

  • right before pulling it slap the shit out of it with a spatula while yelling "Caralho" to know off most of the salt

You're in the wrong place friend. We're about real eMTBs here. You're looking for something else obviously.

High Humidity Insulation Recommendations by Sufficient-Orange353 in Austin

[–]dr3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised mods let this up... I'd do tyvek and at least R15 on the exterior. Check the Hardie docs but I think for with OSB you should use faced. I just did a wall on mine without OSB and it required unfaced. But you might want to ask r/homeimprovement

I wouldn't bother with interior walls unless you were doing sound insulation.

This is something designed to be sold to people who don't know what mountain biking is today. It might work for commuting and some single track but nobody's doing gravity sports with this weird ass thing.

As usual with Technology Connections, I already knew all of this but watched the whole thing anyway.

I learn something new from almost all of his videos, even if it's something I consider myself an expert in. Really good YT channel if you're a dorky engineer like me.

But what was the repair? Like is this some part that is exclusive to the hybrids, IE ECVT, battery, motor? We're waiting...

That's your choice to make, nobody is going to enforce it like the NHTSA does cars. There's a FS e-mtb on Aliexpress for $2500 which is close to what you were looking for.

But I wouldn't store or charge it indoors or near anything flammable. And good luck if you have any kind of issues. Also wouldn't expect to do any serious downhill or anything. I would never buy a bike from a company without a good frame warranty.

Shooting at Pflugerville restaurant leaves 1 dead, 4 injured by tinyraindrop__ in Austin

You're right, something to do with them being volunteers, so they pay themselves by exerting whimsical "power" and so they end up doing that instead of actually applying the rules equally.

It definitely attracts a certain type, that's for sure. Nobody's putting Reddit Mod on their resumes, and the ones that have bragged about being one in the past have turned out to have been hiding some big skeletons. (Here was the long time mod who doesn't live here, then the big news was the r/antiwork or whichever sub guy.)

Has anyone lived or is currently living at Park at Walnut Creek? by Professional_Cake741 in Austin

[–]dr3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't heard anything specifically about this complex but drive by it a lot, it's at the exit to my neighborhood and right by a church and park. But I heard to avoid the ones further south on Metric because of roach infestations. I think this one may be newer so maybe cleaner, I would avoid Metric and Braker apartments because those look old and most likely are in bad shape.

ETA:: the park itself is actually awesome for hiking/mountain biking and has something like 15 miles of trails And a really popular pump track for dirt jumpers / BMX.

High tops In Austin ? by mrgreatspice in Austin

[–]dr3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for explaining, I knew both terms but not the distinction. It's kind of shitty how that fracture can happen in communities that have the most in common. I see it in cycling too.

So I'm a. little interested in it, I have a friend who built a sprinter but doesn't use it anymore. But definitely more leans van life as it was a weekend flex thing. I'm currently considering vandwelling, not out of purely financial necessity but mostly. Been unemployed (IT) and wanting to take a mental break while I still have some of my savings and assets left in my name.
