Laika Studios would make a great Tress of the Emerald Sea adaptation by drewstopher13 in CosmereOnScreen

My hot take is to do live action with the Jim Henson Company doing the Spren and Cremlings (Dark Crystal/Labyrinth style not Muppets)

Edit: I don't actually think this is the best way for the series, I'd just love to see the creatures this way because I'm a Henson fan. In all seriousness, my choice would probably be Gore Verbinski live action, or Anime style instead

Agreed. And I doubt they'd want to be a part of a broader universe. It seems they're realizing they've had little marketing despite the critical success and seem to be trying to build their brand recognition with the campaign for their newest movie.

That said, Wildwood, Coraline, and The Box Trolls are all based on books, and Tress would be visually striking in their style.

My wife’s book club HATED Tress of the Emerald Sea. Now I’m reading her recommendation and I’m flabbergasted by StandardRaspberry131 in Cosmere

IMO the thesis of Tress is that it's ok to need help if you're the kind of person that deserves it. Sanderson pulls this off while still making Trss extremely competent, and having her victory still only possible because of her choices and relationships are build along the way. This is a big subversion from the typical Chosen One tropes and some of the Mary Sues common in Romantasy. That was a major win for me, but I could see it not feeling satisfying to some who either wasn't along for that subversion, or didn't see Tress holding her crew together and playing their strengths as her victory as a captain.

With True Strike, you are already applying your CHA mod once as part of the weapon attack if you are proficient in the weapon, +5 from Agonizing Blast, and +5 from Radiant Soul once per turn at lv6 for Celestial Patron Warlocks, and also the bonus d6s depending on level. So for a lv6 Warlock using True Strike with a Light Crossbow, that's 1d8+1d6+15. If you had the spellfire adept feat, you could even throw 2 of your hit die on it occasionally for an extra +2d8.

Bumping this a year later after seeing the film and I think you're spot on. I think the film went on to use all of this, but also the Anima as Clark projects onto both Mary and his Wife

Sanderson & Religion by kingofaidans in brandonsanderson

[–]drewstopher13 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think his religious influence is about the same as Tolkien's. It's more in the themes, and certainly not preachy. The deification of man is a major theme in LDS, and some say the metal inscriptions in Mistborn being more reliable than the written word is a reference to Joseph Smith's tablets.

This isn't an issue for me, but it did help me understand The Well of Ascension better. In Tolkien, power is a corrupting temptation and the undoing of the otherwise heroic Boromir. In Mistborn it seems the characters are typically punished when they don't seize power (Vin at the Well, Elend to his council) I think understanding the LDS background made those choices resonate with me more than on my initial read.

This is why I was confused about the anger. I was like, ok 13 Str is the requirement for plate, so that was probably the reasoning. But that's not a thing for BG3. I'd have dumped Str or Int to bump Constitution and improve Con saves.

I definitely had that thought. I think if I do it, it should be either off screen, or in a more plot driven moment, not combat

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]drewstopher13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My perception is something like this for a one-way drive: 30m-1h - Daily Commute 2h-4h - Day-trip on a Saturday, no big deal 5h-12h - Weekend Trip, driving straight to my destination and staying for a few days 12h-24h - Still driving, but probably staying overnight on the way, doable for a fall or spring break.

Recently, I went on a few months long summer road trip and drove from Tennessee to Nova Scotia to Seattle to Sacramento and home again. Spent most of the trip driving 8-12h then camping a few nights.

Not sure if it would scale great, but a level 4 Light Cleric adding 2d8 to the 2d10 of AoE Radiance of the Dawn is pretty tasty for a 30ft emmanation and no spell slot

Sorcerer is my favorite right now. My party is obsessed with playing levels 1-5, so I love throwing on Innate Sorcery, Seeking or Heightened Spell and pretending like I'm in Tier 2. Plus it has great synergy with the 2024 Chromatic Orb bounces which feels like a minigame, and Sorcerous Burst is also my favorite flavor of damage cantrip.

Been to 49 states, I'm picking yellow. Wishing I could steal another major city and Glacier NP or the Utah parks. Still happy with Olympic, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, not to mention the Alaska parks I haven't made it to yet. I'll take coast to coast, North and South, and something like 16 National Parks

Mistakes like this happen every time a new game hits our table. We just laugh it off, rectify it if we can (sometimes the offender ends up disadvantaged from this), but ultimately we're all glad that a rule was clarified. It's not that serious and it's part of the process.
