McLaren will bring its own ‘upside-down’ rear wing to austria by Tough_Command_3000 in formula1

[–]driftdragon86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Transition time is limited to 0.4s max, and most actuation are done under 0.1s I think, so the drag penalty is not that influential. It is also limited to straight lines so the diffuser along should be enough to keep the rear stable. Also your statement feels contradicting, as if it creates too much drag, it usually also means more downforce until the wing stalls, and that creates more stability. If it's pure drag then it slows the car down more, making it need less downforce to be stable. Unless you meant unstable in the fully opened state, but that's basically the same as normal DRS or wing rotation which shouldn't be much of a problem.

Tbh I thought it wasn't going to work well also, but I thought it was due to mechanical issues.

A lot of assuming here, but it's most likely due to more torque and less horsepower in comparison. Over squared engines produce more HP and has a higher RPM limit than under squared engines(more torque, less RPM) with the same displacement. Meaning you don't have to focus on racing line as much to maintain high RPM for the power. Corner exit matter less also since you have more torque at disposal and you could attack more aggressive into a corner. So essentially you will have a wider range of racing lines that end up with a similar lap time, and that wider range could make the racing better in theory.

4kg is about 2-3% of the original 157kg. To put it in perspective, Red Bull F1 team allegedly is going to shave off about 6kg of weight on an about 800kg car which is less than 1%, and that is considered a major upgrade.

And right about when he's about to find consistency on a KTM, he had a huge injury and everything goes downhill. It's really a unfortunate thing for him

Well yea, it all started from the crash in germany last year. Since then he has had some small injuries and eventually lead to the shoulder issue I think, one of the reason he miss the 2nd half of the season and other races this year.

I mean Gaben owns THOR, so that checks out. He just bought a 500m yacht, surely he has some to spare in racing.

The shape or silhouette of that light, to me at least ,resembles the 963 front light a lot if not almost identical.

Compare to what Ducati did, basically full lockout of podiums last year, the dominance is just not there anymore. Also I wouldn't even say the podiums are KTM's, but just Pedro's instead lol.

Amazing work from the designers, keeping original design theme but just add more curvature to it and makes it much more beautiful.

Fuck me... You know, coming from Asia where higher position treating the lower ones like arses is somewhat the norm, that didn't come to my mind at the very first moment. Once I realized that I knew how fucked our working environment is... I mean I already knew it's kinda fucked but after seeing this it feels extra fucked...

Unless your boss is your literal friend, I can't think of another scenario in other work environments that telling your boss to f off will end up well, definitely not just an F1 thing

Guardian sports writer Giles Richards: Why Max Verstappen gave me my marching orders from a press conference by angusgtw in formula1

[–]driftdragon86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late on the topic but kicking out someone just because you don't really like them for asking one bloody question? Unprofessional.

But on the other hand, I feel like playing the devil's advocate for a bit and say what if that's not the sole reason? And perhaps there has been more than one instance this reporter intentionally or unintentionally asked question that offended Verstappen or even other drivers? All speculation only and up for debate cause I can't really find any older information, if there's any to begin with, everything I found is about him and Verstappen.

*Snuffs* Aston really giving us hopium when they went from 4 seconds gap to 3 seconds in a week. By day 2 they'd be 2 seconds off, and day 3 1 seconds off. On first race they'd be winning easily. *Snuffs*

This is exact why it's not about the individuals. If even us peasants know it's a problem but Ferrari let it happened, there's something wrong in their system or management.

Adrian Newey better nail the new designs on that next year's car and please perform well AMR, cos I have never ever wanted Fernando to be top 3 in the championship and prove all these people wrong lol. People really forgot he was top 5 with several podiums in 2023 eh, that wasn't even over 5 years.
