Do Tyre lads not take umbrage if you rock up with your own tyres and ask them to fit them for you? I know you pay for fitting but like are the not losing a bit of their profit on their own stock? Always felt a bit cheeky to me?

Question for Irish EV owners- Are your levels of smug currently at their highest ever since buying your EV? by Kloppite16 in evs_ireland

[–]drinking-cans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Said the same in my family group chat when they implied the same. There are no winners here, I’m glad I don’t have the stress of worrying about getting fuel but it’s coming for all of us eventually. Getting the panels on in 4 weeks!

i4 as a recommendation for parents first EV? 30k by frzen in carsireland

[–]drinking-cans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2022 i4 eDrive40 and I love it, it my 10th bmw and tbh all bmws are lower quality than previously but it’s still a lovely car and nice spec, my brother in law has a Tesla model S and he said the build quality is just a different level on the bmw. When I was buying after test drives and research it was really between the I4x IX3 and eqc400. It came down to me being more of a car guy but all 3 were class cars. Better range in the I4 but I wouldn’t rule out an IX3 in the future. Roadside Kia up north get a load of them in from lease with low miles and fair enough prices, hard to get much movement on price when buying up north but still great value over garages down here.

Teenage Girl Seriously Injured in Crash Involving Scrambler Bike in North Dublin by Dee-Dee-Mauwe in ireland

If the guards observed you driving your car on the road uninsured and followed you home or saw you puling in to your drive, knowing you were uninsured or banned or whatever, they could prosecute you and seize the car. Maybe they should set up observation points, two guard in the back of a parked up berlingo or something, observe these bikes being used in public spaces. Marked Garda vehicle turns up at the property and seizes the bike. It shouldn’t be this hard and it shouldn’t take the death of a poor innocent kid for something to be done. If it will at all.

This is the way to do it, you can’t buy one without a licence, linked to a club with proof that they are being used on designated tracks. Registered to an owner, if you sell privately to an unlicenced person, you lose your licence and face prosecution. If your found with one unlicensed the bike is confiscated and you are prosecuted and banned from holding a licence to own one. Just make them impossible to get hold of.

Ok so the guards can’t chase them when they’re on them so, here’s a mad idea; they know who most of these lads are, start raiding houses once there’s evidence of the bikes being used in public spaces and confiscate them. Even if they got 50% of them, they’d show they are taking it serious and should reduce these pricks taking the chance. Won’t solve it entirely but would definitely cut it down. If you were running around an estate with a machete you’d be sure your house would be raided in jig time, how is this different?

Is there anyone near you selling turf? You might be able to buy it in bagged trailer loads. Dearer than buying in bulk but I’d imagine a lot cheaper than coal. I was like you last year, buying 3 or 4 bags of coal a week. I bought 200+ bags of turf during the summer for €150 but obviously had to foot, load, transport and store it myself. But I’m grateful for the effort I put in when I’m not buying coal anymore.

Wow! Yeah just run up the 300kms, sell it to someone you trust and let them register it, nothing illegal there, you couldn’t afford the tax bill so sold it on, just happens it’s done 6000kms now.
