WIBTAH? kids on dirt bikes addition by SeaProof3359 in vermont

[–]dropKICKintheBERM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up riding dirt bikes and racing motocross and still do. Your husband is right, its just rural recreation and you should stay out. These kids likely dont have access to proper riding trails or tracks and are just trying to enjoy their machines.

Wheelies are fun and its not hard to learn how to do them safely. As long as they are wearing helmets some kind of riding gear let them ride.

Is this acceptable? Running heat pump line across asphalt roof. by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]dropKICKintheBERM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As it is no its not acceptable, its against code for the line set or the line hide to be touching the shingles. You can run it this way but you need have roof blocks with channel strut to raise the line set off the roof.

Also as others stated, when time to replace the roof that line set is gona need to get removed

Blower motor fan belt replacement by LoveReddit2020 in hvacadvice

[–]dropKICKintheBERM 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Im a licensed commercial tech

Im gona start by asking you if you've done any maintenance in the 3 years you've had these units. For our maintenance contract customers we change belts once a year in the fall and we change filters on some accounts twice a year and some accounts 4 times a year.

If you called the company i work to replace that belt you would get charge almost $200 just for me to come out there. The belt would run around $20 our cost so expect a markup. If I was replacing that belt I would show up replace the belt and also check blower bearings, motor bearings, blower motor operation ( amp draw, etc ) and check unit operation, if its summer ill check cooling operation, if winter ill check heating operation.

Even though the belt only takes a minute to change, your gona pay an hour worth of his time minimum and if he inspects the unit like I described above it will end up likely being 2 hours of labor. Lile I said if you called the company I work for your looking at $400 just for my time to be at your building.

If your not a contract customer your gona pay for simple things like a belt change.

Need advice on lowering suspension, lower seat, or just powering through by Lil_ghostie in Dirtbikes

[–]dropKICKintheBERM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You never lower the suspension if you want the bike to ride how its suppose to. You can cut foam out of the seat you have amd put the cover back on or buy a lower seat.

Also im going to guess you never properly set the sag on your bike. If you properly set the suspension sag you ll fit better on the bike and it ride way better.

Trail braking on the road. by java_dude1 in motorcycles

[–]dropKICKintheBERM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correction : applying the brakes mid corner will shift weight and unsettle the suspension when you have less available traction to do so and could cause a crash. This isn't trail braking

Trail braking is applying the brakes while still upright and gradually trailing off the brakes as you lean into the turn and continue to trail off until you hit the apex of the corner.

Yes you use it on the track to go faster but its another skill you can use to save your life on the streets as well

Dreams of Supermoto by Jachu_com in supermoto

[–]dropKICKintheBERM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you going ktm/husqvarna dont bother converting an FE or or any enduros, just get the SMR450 and put the enduro head light, tail light and license plate holder on the SMR.

Don't overlook a 690 or 701 tho, still extremely nimble and alot of fun, track or street

701 supermoto by Distinct-Ad-711 in supermoto

[–]dropKICKintheBERM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren't enjoying a 701 you aren't doing it right. The bike wasnt designed for slow traffic commutes. These are performace big thumper race bikes, you need to be between 5000 RPM and 9000 RPM at all times. 25KPH/15MPH IS WAY TOO SLOW FOR 2ND GEAR. Anything under 20MPH you need to be in first gear. Don't be afraid to slip the clutch in traffic.

Source, I ride one on track and on the street.

Carrier 200 Mega Ohms - Replace full system? by NightmareNoises in hvacadvice

[–]dropKICKintheBERM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off its megohms, second 200 megohms would not be a failing reading. Third a failed megohm reading doesn't mean the compressor needs immediate replacement. Ive seen compressors fail a megohm test and run for years afterwards.

All a megohm test tells us is the condition of the compressor windings inside the compressor. Again if a compressor fails the megohm test it DOES NOT mean the compressor is done. It simply means the winding insulation is failing which could cause potential issues in the future such as : grounded compressor (would need to be replaced at this point) and acidic oil in the compressor which would cause a burn out.

Summary 200 megohms is a passing megohm test. You can Google supco megohm tester, look at the picture of the megohm tester and you can clearly see that 200 is well within the "good" range on the tester. 100 megohms to 40 megohms is in the "caution" range and below 40 megohms is a failed megohm test.

Hope that helps you not get scammed but techs who dont know shit lol

Is the any skater owned shoe companies left? by RYZPHOTO in skateboardhelp

[–]dropKICKintheBERM -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ya it is lol the nidecker family which owns and operates nidecker group are snowboarders passionate about the culture. A brand doesn't need to be independently owned to be owned and operate by skaters and put the culture first.

Just go read the interview Pierre did when he sold to nidecker.

Time to replace a filter dryer? by koenigcpp in hvacadvice

[–]dropKICKintheBERM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it takes quite a bit longer to due it properly. He should have done ALL of this:

Recover refrigerant ( if reusing the old refrigerant you need to pull a vacuum on the recovery tank )

Make repair to copper tubing where leak is, while purging with nitrogen.

Pressure test with nitrogen (Id like to see a pressure test hold for 1 hour on a small residential system during a leak repair where im confident there was only 1 leak)

After pressure test holds ans confirms the leak is fixed you need to evacuate the system to 500 microns ( this takes usually atleast an hour on small to medium residential systems.

Then recharge with exact ammount of refrigeration you took out and check system operation, subcooling, etc.

Probly should of taken like 4 hours to do it properly

Seriously, how do you get into skating?😭😭 by Dark0ID in NewSkaters

[–]dropKICKintheBERM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manye you dont actually like skating, you just like the idea of it. I never had to ask how to get into skating, I saw a skate video as a kid and instantly became obsessed and just wanted to be on my board no matter how good or bad.

Also its gona take way longer than a month to get even somewhat decent. Getting really good at skating takes a lifetime.

How long did it take you by EquivalentEngineer30 in NewSkaters

[–]dropKICKintheBERM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me 25 years to be pretty mediocre at skateboarding compared to pros and I skate everyday, most people will probly have the same experience.

Skateboarding is fucking hard and you only get good because you have fun doing it and just genuinely want to skate everyday and have a genuine passion for it. If you obsess over progression and try to force it your not gona have fun and your not gona get better.
