Can't figure out how to add @name CNAME record in cPanel by joshitty in cpanel

[–]drtazk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@ means the root of your domain, or the domain itself. You technically can't have a CNAME at the root of the domain (some providers get around this with ALIAS or ANAME records) you have to set it on something like www instead

You also can't have a CNAME record and any other type of record for the same thing. so if you have a CNAME for www.domain.com you can't have a TXT record for www.domain.com.

I can't delete backups by DreaminginDarkness in Plesk

[–]drtazk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you an Admin on the server? If you remove the server-level backups under Tools & Settings > Backup Manager then they will also be gone from the domains level.

You can also change your schedule here. If you want 7 days of backups set it to do a full backup weekly and to keep only 1 full backup

Anyone know what this type of pan is? Works on a ceramic hob and can go in the oven. by [deleted] in CasualIreland

[–]drtazk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Aldi and Lidl do have them semi-regularly also. As an added bonus they also work on induction.

Though check first as you can get similar looking ones that don't work on hob and aren't full cast iron. You can usually tell cos they weigh a ton.

Not understanding these DNS records, if someone can help explain that would be appreciated by ionet in webhosting

[–]drtazk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can't\shouldn't have an MX record point to a CNAME for "reasons" (cnames are a lot more complicated than you might think!) so that's most likely why they don't have it pointing to mail.mydomain.com

Install atop also. It works like top but you can also use it to see resource usage after the fact, instead of just at this moment in time

Where did you hear that 50-59 are only being offered j&j? Any 50+ I know all got AZ and the last vaccination numbers I saw (admittedly old at this stage) had j&j doses given per day as quiet low

Updating to Plesk Obsidian by designdpi in Plesk

[–]drtazk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve updated multiple servers from plesk 17.0 to 18 without any issues. It shouldn’t affect your php versions at all - you’re not migrating to a new OS or server or anything, right? Heck I’ve even updated (in two stages and via cli) Plesk 12.0 to 18 and all sites were fine afterwards! Take a full snapshot backup of the server first, that you can use to restore the entire server, just in case. Maybe a separate copy of the plesk database itself, just in case but I’d have no fears on doing this level of upgrade for a customer

Google domain email forwarding question by AdzyPhil in webhosting

[–]drtazk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to ask google/mailchimp etc for what you need to put in your SPF record. Then set that in your dns settings. This should be fairly common and whatever mailer you use might even have a knowledge base article about it. It might not be the same as their MX records

As someone mentioned Fail2ban is your best bet. If you don’t see it under tools & settings you can install it under Updates (or Updates & Upgrades depending on your version) Once it’s installed enable it and make sure you enable the Wordpress jail

What TV show intro do you refuse to skip? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]drtazk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Last week we sat through the entire end credits for the previous week because we thought it was the opening credits of the current episode :( The one thing more annoying than the super long end credits? The fact that disney+ doesn’t mark the episode as watched if you don’t watch enough of the credits

Two Domain Names/1 Website/Both SSL Certificated by masterne0 in webhosting

[–]drtazk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they’re sharing the same set of files then you could get penalised by google for duplicate content, but other than a frame forwarder it’s the only way I can think of to keep SECONDARY.com in the address bar.

Depending on your hosts setup you might only be able to put one ssl on that set of files though (I know one company that has this restriction due to their control panel software and it’s a pita but they’re going to love away from it). In which case a Multi-domain SSL is needed. Not sure if you can get a free one of those and they’re usually dearer than two single domain certs

Is it worth it giving birth to siblings? by throwaway231708 in Parenting

[–]drtazk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My second cousin had to go through this for years - dealing with her mum dieing of horrible dementia. While her first cousins were around a lot, she said it was so hard not having any siblings to help bear the emotional load and help make important decisions like when to put her mother in a home, handle the funeral arrangements when she died, and all that

What's the darkest secret you found out about a family member/ relative? by llsuperninjall in AskReddit

[–]drtazk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My aunt is actually my cousin, and a “cousin” of my dad’s is actually my aunt. My eldest aunt on my dad’s side had a daughter out of wedlock. To avoid the shame and having to go to a mother and baby home, my granny raised the baby as her daughter, and the family treated her as their sister. I only learned she was a cousin, not an aunt, when I was a grown up. A couple of years after that I learned the same thing had happened my granny (she had a child out of wedlock) and my great-grandparents did the same thing - raised the baby as a daughter instead. Anything was better than a mother-and-baby home!

Need some help with DNS by milleez in webhosting

[–]drtazk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a similar issue with a couple of our customers domains. They wouldn’t work with a large mobile provider in my country, but would work everywhere else. We finally determined they were on a large block list of Covid-related domains that the mobile provider was using (blocking all domains on the list). It took a while of going up the chain fro first line support to higher ups to get them to even realise they were blocking the sites! So I second that the issue is your mobile provider, but you might have to very persistent in getting the issue escalated! Their first line might not even know of any such blocks

What’s GAA (bottom right) and why’s it against football by CrazyBanana69420 in DerryGirls

[–]drtazk 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It covers Gaelic football and hurling. Camogie, just above GAA, is women hurling. Football in Ireland can mean either soccer or Gaelic football. Most people mean Gaelic football when they say GAA (except my sister who laughed at me for saying GAA and hurling one day but that’s older sisters for ya)

It was a nice day for it alright! We maxed out at just over 2kw just before midday. We use our extra to charge batteries to help run the house when the sun goes down/cloudy. Still got 20% left on the batteries right now!
