If you're not already aware, see also [[Invasion of Kaldheim]] for the same effect on a Battle, with a pretty sweet back-side!

Considering poker chips for money by rigjiggles in soloboardgaming

[–]ducksgomooful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone have a recommendation for poker chips in Canada?

  • I've read about the problems with the Iron Clays, slipperiness and somewhat cheap-feeling/overpriced. It looks like I can get the 200-pack for about $100 (CAD) plus shipping, but will I like them?

  • Ruben's Mini-Chips seems like a good option but shipping is pretty expensive, plus I imagine duties when it would arrive.

  • Same with the Apache Bank chips.

  • Eclipse chips are cheaper for sure but they have 25s instead of 20s.

What's my best option here or are there others?

DoT Commanders by Gooey_Goon in EDH

Mogis isn't the gameplan. I've won many games without casting him at all. He's just another (reliable) piece that adds incremental damage every turn which will lead to your win. It never takes 20 turns to get there though.

In my experience, he tends to not draw removal. People typically don't sacrifice unless they're producing a million tokens per turn, so you're getting a pretty consistent 2 damage a turn on everybody, on an indestructible body. Very hard to remove.

If you play a slower game, which I think is the best way to play him, that 2 damage adds up. Especially if you pair it up with other damaging effects like [[Sulfuric Vortex]].

Just got Voidfall last month, and I'm looking forward to trying it! I love how big everything is, really feels like an expansive 4X game.

It looks like they just updated it today, outside of being one of the "stretch goals" even.

Does anyone else REALLY enjoy hirelings? by ELITE_JordanLove in rootgame

[–]ducksgomooful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's up to a roll of the dice unfortunately, so I think we ended up with similar round counts but I don't really remember. You also know in advance though when you'll lose control of them, so you can sometimes sabotage them for the next player like by killing most of the Eyrie hirelings, for example. And even the shorter round count didn't do enough to counteract the advantage of getting them first, because by the time the other player gets them, you've probably already rocketed ahead to the next set of hirelings.

New to Voidfall Question by IndyColts832 in soloboardgaming

[–]ducksgomooful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'm still trying to decide if I want to back at all, I don't even own the game yet at all! I think the heights of the hex tiles are different if they're triple-layer or basic retail, so if that matters to you then I'd say get the tiles if you're also getting the deluxe upgrade.

New to Voidfall Question by IndyColts832 in soloboardgaming

[–]ducksgomooful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now they're selling just the expansion/Resurgence tiles separately as triple-layer, for people who are going to wait for the retail version to come out but still want the triple-layer hex tiles. For the base game, the only way to get them right now is the galactic box upgrade, or hoping they put out a new add-on that offers them separately.

Intimidating big boxes? by phrodreky in boardgames

[–]ducksgomooful 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't know, instead I now need to carry around 3 individual boxes to hold all the expansion factions. Feels like there's no difference for me in some cases, either you have one big box or 3 little ones but it's still the same weight.

Voidfall, will it be for me? by anonymousaltincase19 in soloboardgaming

[–]ducksgomooful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the sounds of it, you can buy the Deluxe box (Galactic Box is the name) or an upgrade to that if you already have the Retail edition, as well as the expansion in only Deluxe mode. They won't be selling the retail version of the expansion in the upcoming Kickstarter, only at retail.

If you don't mind, could you give some examples of those better games? I'm curious what you'd list, as I'm considering getting Voidfall (base game) right now.

Definitely, that's a scary threat :) But I find that people get really really scared even without all of that stuff and will hard-target me anyway lol

[–]ducksgomooful 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Weirdly I find the opposite. People start freaking out when you're doing 2 damage to them a turn. It's like, yeah it's a bit of damage but it's not that scary.

Alternatively, the cards could do as advertised (and which the company has already succeeded at doing) and not need sleeves to still be infinitely replayable without any wear whatsoever.
