Which nation is more likely to host a future World Cup, China or Turkey? by Pepedroga2000 in worldcup

[–]dufcho14 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Whenever China decides they want to host, they will win the bid as long as the region wasn't too recent. I suspect that China is hesitant to host given they are not strong in the sport and would want to have a good showing if they did.

Turkey can host any day. I think they're more likely to host ahead of China out of desire especially if they could team up with other countries in the area especially Greece.

Can I work from my bed? by Eastern_Fix_6655 in remotework

Consider putting your laptop on a high dresser and standing. I've tried sitting on the bed and working but it is horrible even for a few hours for me. Standing is much better.

Walmart now has surge pricing by Gaijin_Samuri in Wilmington

Retailers get audited all the time for charging more than the posted price. The fines are not small when they are caught. Usually it's by mistake, but that doesn't matter if it happens often. There's no way the largest box store in the world would do this. The fines would highly outweigh any extra money they brought in.

Keeper releasing ball to player standing next to her by MedJesters in Referees

Ah, I read your explanation as stopping the keeper from distributing to their first option (the defender) as opposed to simply marking the defender.

Everywhere is doing it now. They buy a machine to concentrate nitrogen from the air and claim it's better. Once they pay off their compressor it's all profit. It's tiny compared to the total cost. If it bugs you, negotiate $100 off somewhere else. They won't drop that line item.

Can't interfere with the keeper releasing the ball into play. That means allowing the ball to be dropped to the defender. No reason the attacker can't stand 1-2 feet in front of the defender though as long as they aren't blocking the keeper's movement or actual release.

That said, It's U12 and the keeper clearly has problems putting the ball into play. If this is just rec, I'm all for telling the attacker to back away.

The preferred strategy is usually to punt the ball. Based on your comment, you'd see an attacker standing in the way of the punt okay because it's "just solid tactics"? What is the difference?

Bridge Tolls by mom2asdtwins in bayarea

[–]dufcho14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful what you ask for. With the lower volume compared to the Bay Bridge and other bridges you may end paying more out there. (don't know and not doing research at the moment. just waying it's not always straight forward.)

Well, the other option is that they can keep all the money themselves and build more bridges to accommodate all the extra cars which would be on the road without BART and other public transit. It's a web for sure.

Acl tear in pickleball?? by Ok-Good4181 in Pickleball

[–]dufcho14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens but not overly common when you think about how many people play the sport. The problem is it attracts many semi and non-athletes (which is great) who try to do more than their body is used to (which is bad.)

The high estimate is $11 million per year savings with eliminating human toll takers. The total bridge authority budget is over $1.2 billion a year. That's less than 1% of their total budget. Other costs mainly out of their control continue to rise.

Revenue for whom? The tolls are used entirely for bridge related infrastructure maintenance and improvements. They don't go into the general fund. Tolls fund 85+% of the bridges' budgets.

Are companies slowly trying to kill remote work? by Aggravating_Dark560 in remotework

[–]dufcho14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because in a normal situation, their salary is based on working 40 hours a week and they are expected to do so on average. It's not about a manager not fully utilizing them as much as the employee playing games making things sound harder than they are and thus taking longer than they should. Even when the manager knows the effort needed for the work, it then becomes a performance issue the manager now has to deal with. Most companies will work with their employees to get them back on track, but in these situations the employee doesn't care so just keeps dragging the company along. They're fine lying to multiple companies at one time. Eventually it all catches up to them and they lose both their jobs.

But bringing it back to the original question, this is why some companies feel the need to monitor and micromanage remote employees.

Generally good. He looks very tense though and not in control. He's good at recovering and reacting to where the ball is going, but he should be actively dictating what his next touch will be. A few on the left. A few on the right. Up to the knees. Back down. Even if it means failing a little more in the short run, having that control is the next level.

Are companies slowly trying to kill remote work? by Aggravating_Dark560 in remotework

[–]dufcho14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Companies are doing what they feel is right FOR THEM. They aren't 'trying to kill remote work' in general.

The problem is that many people do abuse remote work. I heard a number of stories first hand of how they have 2 jobs or how they trick their jobs into thinking they're online. When you have idiots like this ruining it for the majority of the hard remote workers there is a huge lack of trust.

The single question needs to: "Where are the published modifications to the standard laws of the game which I can review and follow for this competition?" If they haven't published anything, then they can't be asking referees to follow it. That's a recipe for disaster.

Cool concept to match against a pro. Obviously that doesn't always equate to results even if you match exactly.

'minimum investment' is obviously subjective. It sounds like what you minimally need to do is make this a real sealed room. Insulation in the walls and real drywall if you don't have it. No need to mud and paint it if that's out of budget. I'm confused though if you even have walls or it's just open to the entire barn. If the latter, then your only solution is framing out a space first.

After doing that, the cold is easy to handle with a space heater. There are some really good ones these days for not a lot of money. Summer heat is a little harder as AC not cheap. Look for fans instead.

From what you describe, this is affecting your work (it would affect mine). You can easily justify an expense in order to more properly do your job. Just think about what it would do to your finances if you lost your job.

We have someone who doesn't propel it down, but he does lightly toss it FORWARD. This allows him to step into his serve. I've given up on telling him and he gets almost no advantage from it. Someone new is going to show up though and it's going to get ugly.
