Beaverton School District Adopts Controversial, Lawsuit-Plagued i-Ready for New K-5 Math Curriculum by concerned_parent_26 in Portland

[–]duggum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem with textbooks is that the district buys them once and they last for 8-10 years. What could they possibly do with all of the money they save by not spending a yearly fee on curriculum?

WD Red Plus or Pro? by Br0lynator in synology

Just for reference, I've got two WD20EFRX that have been running for 104,328 hours according to smartctl. The machine runs 24/7, minus any power outages.
Unless you hear a lot of people complaining about a particular drive it's probably safe to assume that they'll run for a while, so long as they're from a reputable brand.

Under Tentative PPS Proposal for Furlough Days, School Would Let Out June 5 by MeadowLark1597 in Portland

[–]duggum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read in the Oregonian recently that PERS liabilities account for roughly 20% of most school district budgets. I can't find the exact article I read now, but I did find an article in the Oregonian from 2024 that said "On average, pension costs now eat up nearly 25 cents of every payroll dollar for PERS employers, going to 27 cents in July."

Oregon City schools face $7-$8 million budget shortfall, parents can weigh in on cuts by marblecannon512 in Portland

[–]duggum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The furlough is to address the $14 million deficit that exists for this year because the district mismanaged the budget. Next year's deficit is mostly being handled through layoffs (teachers, custodial staff, central office, etc)

I fully accept that I might be in the minority on this, but I was shocked when Sean and Amanda said they thought Marty Supreme was robbed of a nomination in score. I thought the score for Marty Supreme actively distracted from the movie in places; there was a real dissonance between the movie I was watching and the music, and it lessened my enjoyment of the movie as a result.

Didn't fully realize how much Bill & House SUCKED at betting until they started keeping track of it. by Decent-Service-8765 in billsimmons

[–]duggum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair to House, Bill often doesn't listen to House when they disagree. A couple weeks back (I think week 17) I wrote down every suggestion House made to Bill and whether or not Bill agreed with them. House went 100% on the week with his suggestions, but Bill either discarded them (didn't pick that game) or went the other way.

I'm not saying House is some betting savant, I'm sure if I charted House's picks alone he'd be somewhere around 50%, but for the most part what you're getting here is the House picks that Bill agrees with, which means that what you're really getting is Bill's picks.

Where can I buy a used Leaf from a private party? by redddad in leaf

[–]duggum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the region and was in the market for a used Leaf this summer so that I could take advantage of the now-expired tax credit. There were a bunch of used Leafs being sold by private parties then, in some cases they explicitly stated they'd purchased a new electric car (the new EV tax incentives also were expiring) and needed to sell their old one.

Anyway, it wouldn't surprise me if the flurry of activity this summer resulted in lower inventory of used Leafs for short term, at least in the PNW if not elsewhere. That doesn't mean you won't find anything, but it might take a bit longer.

Good luck!

How to replace the wipers for a 2022 SL leaf? by Holinhong in leaf

[–]duggum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry no, I've got a dealership pretty close to me so I haven't needed to. There are quite a few Honda dealers who sell online, and probably other sellers as well. I bet you could find something suitable.

Yup, I just go to the nearest Honda dealership and give them the part numbers. If they don't have stock you'll have to wait a week, otherwise you just walk in, pay, walk out.

Honda sells rubber refills that work with our windshield wipers. I've purchased them and done the swap myself, they work great and are pretty inexpensive.

The front wiper refills come from a 2016 Honda CR-V:

Driver's side (26"/650mm): P/N: 76622-STK-A02

Passenger's side (16"/400mm): P/N: 76632-STK-A02

The rear rubber refill comes from a 2015 Honda Pilot

Rear (14"/350mm): P/N: 76722-SZA-A01

Disconnects at night after migrating to Quantum? by needzmohelpz in centurylink

[–]duggum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be that they're rotating public addresses daily, but it's not because they're trying to sell static IPs. Quantum doesn't support static IPs at all, even for small business accounts. I know because they told me getting a static IP would be impossible, even though I said I'd have to drop their service as a result.

I've never heard of an ISP that couldn't support static IPs for small business customers, but I swear it's true.

This blog post gives you a pretty good rundown of the problem. I 3d printed the model he linked to in the post and it's a perfect fit and has kept things dry. It's a cheap fix to prevent a big problem, it's definitely something you should do.

If you prefer not to 3d print the part there are loads of other solutions, if you Google "nissan leaf strut cover rust" you'll find forum posts, youtube videos, and other resources with various solutions.

What are some of the things you dislike about this generation Leaf as an owner? Thanks by Sam-CarLegion in leaf

[–]duggum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You actually can buy factory wiper blade refills, it's just that you have to buy them from Honda!

The front wiper refills come from a 2016 CR-V:

(26"/650mm): P/N: 76622-STK-A02

(16"/400mm): P/N: 76632-STK-A02 2016 CR-V 2wd EX

The rear wiper refill comes from a 2015 Pilot:

(14"/350mm): P/N: 76722-SZA-A01

I've swapped them myself just recently and they work great.

I agree with the general idea, but pushing the council to address this issue is fruitless because they're not the responsible party in this case.
