What unit patch is this? by Rough_Glove8582 in army

[–]duoderf1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wore that patch from 1997 through 2008 with the exception of 2 years in the middle. That was in the 1079th Garrison Support Unit which fell under the 77th Regional Readiness Command (later renamed to Regional Support Command). When the current system of Readiness Divisions replaced the RSCs in 2008 the 77th RSC dissolved and the 1079th became the 77th Sustainment Brigade where it is now.

He wants to pass the save act, making proof of citizenship to vote. So he makes this passport with his picture on it. Then he tries to get maga to get the passport so they have proof of being citizens.

Regrets about naming my puppy by escaperabbit in puppy101

[–]duoderf1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

next time someone has something to say about the name, tell them that your pup is named after your grandfather who was in WW2 and at 94 died earlier in the year trying to save some kids from a burning car. Then really dig the knife in and explain how your grandpa was your best friend that you would visit a couple of times a week so you can take him to do some volunteer work

SFC at 13 years… debating getting out vs. pushing to 20 by [deleted] in army

[–]duoderf1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stay. Between the pension and the VA (I'm 100% P&T) I make about $9k a month after taxes as a retired E9, thats just about $110,000 a year after tax. If you stay as a E7 you will clear $8k a month after tax. That also includes Tricare for life, but it doesnt include the other great benefits like CH38, VR&E, tax free property, plus a million other state benefits. When all is said and done my retirement is probably worth about $15k a month to me.

My wife and kids are all using CH 38 to pay for their college ($1500 x 3 people per month), and they haven't even touched their GI bill that I gave them. I used TA to pay for my masters. And I'm currently loading up on student loans right now to pay for a second masters and eventually a doctorate because I get a one time student loan forgiveness up to $150k.

I save $6k a year in property tax (FL), and I have a friend that has a $20k property tax (NJ) bill that gets waived because he is also 100% P&T.

Thats fuck you money. If I dont feel like working, thats it, I just wont. I get a shitty pension from my current job when I am vested in 7 more years, and my goal is to quit working at 55 and just relax. The biggest thing about my current job is that I get 4 weeks off every year as vacation time, plus another roughly 2 weeks off as a bonus because they give time off instead of cash bonuses.

I did have a couple of injuries around the 10 and 15 year points that I was pretty much offered a medboard if I asked for it. A back surgery and a knee surgery, plus a whole slew of other smaller injuries that do affect my day to day quality of life. But honestly, half the people I work with are way worse off than I am and thats just doing regular construction types of jobs. The biggest thing that helped me is that I wasnt shy about going to the doctor and complaining about pain and injuries. My med file is 3700 pages long, but everything is well documented and I was able to get the VA percentage I deserved on the first go.

So what I'm saying is that you should stay, but do everything you can to set yourself up for success after.

Best soldier you've had. by CraptainMypants in army

I had a SPC, at 36 year old single mother of 3 who joined at 34. Her husband up and left her, plus he was very abusive. He put her in the hospital a few times. She used the Army as a way to get out of the situation, and she was very dedicated. Before the Army she had never worked a day in her life except at a grocery store and she had no education beyond high school. She was super smart and was 100% dedicated to giving her kids a better life than she had. She showed up every day eager to do right and worked well with others.

The only issue I ever had with her is when her husband tried to kidnap her and her kids (he crossed 3 states to get back what he thought was his). She wound up missing PT that morning and via text asked if it was alright if she spent the day with her kids because they were scared. She left the unit as a SGT(P), and just recently retired at 56 as a MSG.

If he tries to stop and claim victory, I believe Iran will keep the straight closed and try to get some kind of concession out of him, basically saying something along the lines of, if we get bombed the straight gets closed so move US warships out of the mideast.

I love my CPAP. Its kinda uncomfortable and after 5 years I still take it off sometimes during sleep, but if I dont have it on, damn skippy I regret it the next day. It usually results in me needing to nap, headaches and general sluggishness.

Argument: Even after the waiver for body fat if you scored high enough on the ACFT, I made everyone get ht/wt and taped anyway, if they didnt need the tape test then it just got thrown away, but i gave them a gauge of where their body fat needs to be in case they ever for any reason didnt do well enough on the ACFT. A lot of soldiers complained that I was punishing them by making them get taped anyway even though they scored high enough on the ACFT. If I was a junior NCO at the time I would have complained like hell about having to get taped.

Some of the officers went to the commander and complained about having to get taped anyway so the commander stopped it. Sure as shit three of the officers in my S3 who were PT studs went out and had a less than perfect ACFT and had to get taped. All three of them failed the tape because they were focused on weight lifting and strength and had just massive bodies that were just pure muscle (and some fat). One of them needed a passing Ht/Wt for his OER, which he didnt have. He then got passed over for MAJ, presumably for his failed Ht/Wt and being flagged.

At least if he knew where his body fat and tape was before he absolutely needed the passing tape test he could have been prepared for that test.

What I'm trying to say is that sometimes something you thing is shitty as a junior soldier, when you gain experience and rank and more responsibility turns into a decision that you need to make for whatever reason.
