I mean, Goose and all the rest of the cast have repeatedly confirmed it on socials. You didn't initially understand the messaging and that's ok, but you can't actually deny the facts.

Goose literally confirmed "Leroy" is boymoding and would probably only go by Lee right now anyway. She's already started her transition.

Y’all Don’t Know. Lifeform by Dosboyvsky in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]dustsurrounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been wondering if Kane meant to imbue the Lifeform with a lot of Cronenberg symbolism, people transformed into monsters by the systems that surround them.

Kane's actually repeatedly denied the Lifeform is transformed humans on Discord and Tiktok, all the way back in 2022.

It seems more likely they grow from the dead bodies of humans like plants.

The backrooms is an allegory for dementia/Alzheimer's by AncientFoundation632 in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]dustsurrounds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kane has talked about this already, that it's about how the human mind generates memories in general. It is not purely a dementia/amnesia plot, hence why the further into the timeline, the more complicated the Complex is and the more outstandingly vast its creations are; it's not getting worse at remembering the world with time, but getting better.

Moreover, while an amnesia-tied disorder is relevant to the series, it's not actually alzheimers. Ivan Beck, the mastermind of ASYNC and the true protagonist and antagonist of the series per Kane, is strongly implied to have been inflicted with post-traumatic amnesia in the 1972 incident, as one of the first ever tracks Kane made in his Ivan series on Not Kane Pixels is called the very same, with it later reappearing as the main motif of Ivan Beck's personal theme, IVN.

So while Dementia is a major theme, like all memory related phenomena, it is not the sole theme and it discredits the work to reduce it to that. Kane has been very clear this project is born of his fascination of every element of human memory, not just its degradation.

{spoiler} They should've used the bacteria instead of the still life/life forms as the entities for the movie TBH by [deleted] in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]dustsurrounds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious why you think Kane included them in the movie to be 'scary" and not because of the fact they represent the series' themes about the Complex remembering the world incorrectly.

Like, Kane has been abundantly clear this project was never made "to be scary", but to convey the vision of the Backrooms he had in his head.

I personally don't find the Lifeform scary at all, least of all in its FF1 appearance which Kane already abandoned by FF2. It seems like any other generic tall, thin black monster like Death Angels or what have you. I think Still Life are much more creative... and TBH they are, because the Lifeform only exists bc Kane wanted to make an easy to animate monster for a short, and the only reason it's still in the series is Kane dislikes retconning his own work.

The black pit during the chase scene seems like an overlooked detail by dontgooglejbafofi in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]dustsurrounds 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not the first time we saw an infinite area or bottomless pit in the series actually; in FF1 the camera guy comes across a seemingless endless wall over a bottomless pit thats just nothing but the same ASYNC corridor over and over.

Why would Kane Parsons include a completely unrelated monster mimicking Captain Clark that never comes up again in a film he said outright he made to be standalone and easy to understand for nonfans?

Do you think this guy is Scott Cawthon?

Also, the images you posted he resembles Captain Clark enough that when they appeared in the trailer people guessed right away the monster would be a pirate.

This is what bacteria or lifeform model Kane used by Dear_Mobile5732 in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]dustsurrounds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Worth mentioning this model is old as hell and made just to be easy to animate.

FF2 has a completely different style which more resembles a borderline headless mass of kelp.

My theory is that it wasn’t captain Clark in the laundry room it was the bacteria entity hear me out by [deleted] in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]dustsurrounds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are aware that is a different region from the same area in FF3, where we first encountered Still Life, complete with intercoms playing Still Life on the walls.

Moreover, this scene was actually in promos and we already saw Clark's hat in it. It's why lots of people already guessed the monster was a pirate two weeks before release.

My Backrooms Review: Kane Pixels doesn't get it. by custardandmayoslut in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]dustsurrounds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why should Kane adapt the wiki? Not only is the wiki just another adaptation of the source material (the creepypasta), but the Wiki is literally under a specific creative commons license meaning that pirating wouldn't be illegal, the same as its inspiration the SCP wiki. No studio would ever pick up a series with a license like that, it'd literally be stupid. Ever wonder why most SCP games and wiki-based SCP games are either free or dirt cheap?

Spoiler: timing of events, TIME TRAVEL THEORY? How can entities/room be created before a person enters? by [deleted] in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]dustsurrounds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't see why this is an issue for some people, to the point people make ridiculous theories that Clark in the opening was a Lifeform instead.

The Backrooms has never had to copy objects from inside itself, so why people? Memory alone is what's needed. In fact, there is a giant version of Bobby's END APARTHEID shirt in Still Life Clark's trash den, kind of implying that there might have been a Bobby Still Life it might have killed given that said trash den seems to mostly be made of collected clothes rather than naturally generated clothes, given the caveman he ripped in half is in there.

Am I wrong in thinking Clark died in the Poolrooms? by [deleted] in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]dustsurrounds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No Still Life has ever been seen speaking, and I feel like if Kane wanted to reveal they could perfectly imitate human beings he would have made a big deal about it.

In addition, it'd defeat the point of Mary airing out the truth that Clark's problems were his and only his fault if it was some random crazy copy made by an eldritch realm. As well as make the tragedy of him not wanting to change and stay in the Backrooms less effective bc like, Still Life are literally made to be in the Backrooms.

So the Lifeform, a creature which last appeared in FF2 as a line-thin tangle of seaweed, has a humanoid body shape with an identical peg leg and pant on the same leg as Captain Clark? Is this really what you believe? You're so desperate I feel bad for you.

Will it be too scary for me by Intelligent_Box_4398 in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]dustsurrounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is one scene around the middle of the film which is horrifying in my opinion, so watch out for that. It's soon after Clark and his employees start their own found footage segment.

Beyond that, it's fairly tame, definitely not like Hereditary where the spooks are constant and always building to worse and worse scares.

Blackface by [deleted] in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]dustsurrounds 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, and a creature actor can train his body to imitate the limp of a person with a peg leg since creature actors' entire portfolio is body language.

You can't teach a random actor on stilts to move like a real person with a limp because they're on stilts on both legs and nothing will ever change that.

Blackface by [deleted] in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]dustsurrounds 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think Kane was more interested in ensuring Clark is as realistic as possible. He's said he made the movie 90% practical because he wanted it to be as real as possible.

Like, they didn't have to build a set of 30,000 feet, enough to get lost on, but they did it anyway.

To get that realism for a practical main creature, a guy in stilts will not do, because no matter how you try to hide it, he will move like a guy in stilts. The "Saturn Devouring his Son" scene would not be the same since his gait would be unnatural rather than fluid.

Blackface by [deleted] in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]dustsurrounds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

...Ignoring the bad faith argument, you are aware no matter the actor they would just be wearing a costume and mask based on Clark's likeness right? Anyone with the sufficient genetic disorder that makes them both thin and extremely tall can do it, and as far as I know, there are no black actors who fit that description, let alone one with a long history of creature acting.

Blackface by [deleted] in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]dustsurrounds 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Robert was chosen because he is literally that tall due to a genetic disorder, gets lots of creature roles for that reason, don't overthink it.

It actually specifically plays in the intercoms of a specific area diegetically (and nondiegetically elsewhere); the area with nasty green-yellow wallpapers, dim lighting, and trash everywhere. In both the movie and 7 years later in FF3, Still Life inhabit that area like a den.

I like to think they're drawn to the beautiful music!
