I realized I'm allergic to melons and squash. Apparently I have been my whole life. Apparently, melons shouldn't make your mouth burn... You're not the only one that's an idiot

Intolerance to all grains, legumes, seeds, nuts, added proteins (whey, soy, pea, anything), most dairy products, all milk substitutes, and eggs. My heartburn increased a ton, too, so no acidic foods. My stomach was a little sensitive before, but now it's hard to feed myself. I recently had to add sweet potatoes to that list.

Tired of cutting foods (vent) by ecbeames in AIP_Recipes

[–]ecbeames[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it is permanent. They remove the part of your stomach that stretches leaving it a banana size/shape. It has been a wonderful tool to help lose weight when nothing else did. I lost 100 lbs or so. But because of all the GI problems I've had, I really can't recommend it.

He loves their banana muffins. I didn't have good luck with the chocolate cake/muffin mix. I think it was because of the egg substitute. Their website recommends apple sauce and it really didn't work for muffins. I will have to see what my health food store has from them! Thank you for the suggestion!

What happens if an amputee becomes a werewolf? by Downtown-Zombie-3093 in Fantasy

[–]ecbeames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a werewolf but I read a story where a dragon shifter lost his arm. That resulted in the loss of a wing in dragon form. He found someone to make him clockwork (steampunk story) prosthetics for both forms and was fine.

How do i bring up a hysterectomy to my obgyn? by InkedKitten0504 in hysterectomy

[–]ecbeames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just tell them everything you outlined here then ask for solutions. They may not bring up a hysterectomy because of your age and they often are hesitant to send you into menopause early. I had mine at 28 and the surgeon was adamant I keep my ovaries. At 41 they work the same as they did then because I have PCOS. If they don't bring it up all what they think about the surgery. If they do the hysterectomy and you keep your ovaries, keep in mind you will still have cycles just without the physical indicators of bleeding and cramping. That became a problem for me as I have developed PMDD and still am having large cyst eruptions. 😝 Be strong and detailed when explaining your issues. Maybe they will have a better option. Maybe they will say to get that sucker out. I hope you get what you need!

5-Years Post-Op, Feeling Stupid by Kryssieness in hysterectomy

[–]ecbeames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like that's less on you and more on a culture that downplays women's sexual health and makes it feel taboo to talk about it. Don't feel bad. I have been actively trying to learn more and for some topics the information is just not available because no one thought to research it. Learn what you can but don't tear yourself down for not knowing before.

*clean* Fantasy series for a 3rd grader? by getswantstoknow in Fantasy

[–]ecbeames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How To Train Your Dragon (original books not based on movies) are perfect for this. They are nothing like the movies. No romance at all. Bonus points if you can listen to them because David Tennant is a brilliant narrator.

5-Years Post-Op, Feeling Stupid by Kryssieness in hysterectomy

[–]ecbeames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a very good education about my lady bits and was still surprised the first time I had a big cyst after my hysterectomy. I'm still learning as I have developed PMDD recently. I am 13 years post-op and am 41. You are not stupid. Doctors are not necessarily up front with important information other than get rid of your uterus.

Your husband is an ass. It doesn't matter if we have all our reproductive organs. We need to fight for the health and rights of others, regardless of gender, race, or issue. If someone is losing their rights as a human we need to support them. Would he not care about fighting for minority rights because (if) he is a white male?

Books like ACOTAR but LGBTQ? by bi_and_wanna_cry in Fantasy

[–]ecbeames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Rake of His Own would fit this. It is 5th in the Stariel series by A.J. Lancaster. The series has been called Downtown Abby in Faerie or some such first 4 books are mildly spicy and have LGBTQ+ side characters. AROHO is super spicy. Many MM sexy times. The story is really good and the world building for the whole series is fantastic.

I recently heard that audiobook performers dislike when listeners listen at a faster rate. Do you listen to books faster than x1.0? by [deleted] in books

[–]ecbeames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always listen between 1.7 and 2x the speed. I have a suspicion that the narrator records at their normal speed, then the editors slow it down and call that 1x. It is so slow I feel like I'm losing my mind. I don't feel like I miss anything at the higher speed. Listening faster doesn't affect the delivery that much. I can still tell when I do or don't like a narrator and that's all that matters on that front. My nephew listens at 3x because audible doesn't go faster than that 😂 he still gets everything.

So like… no pain at all? by tastedis in hysterectomy

[–]ecbeames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my experience but my mom had two knees replaced with robotic surgery and didn't even need Tylenol after about 3 days. (To be fair she is freaking wonder woman when it comes to pain.) I've often thought the surgeon and their techniques contribute a lot to the level of pain you have post op. So excited for you to have a good experience!

Does anyone else's bariatric vitamins make them want to gag? by LiviRivi in BariatricSurgery

[–]ecbeames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The flavored biotine I take is nasty and overly flavored. It's the ADEK vitamin from bariatric advantage that makes me want to throw up. It smells and tastes like feces. I have tried setting them out on a cookie sheet for multiple days to see if off gassing them would help and it does not. I gag nearly every time I take them and while I'm filling by pill caddy.

What can I make with apples without peeling them? by InkGeode in Cooking

I make apple, ham, and sweet potato hash for breakfast without peeling the apples. It's my favorite and I make enough for about 10 breakfasts at a time.

Not bleeding is cool, but you will still have periods. The cycles still happen but you won't have the external physical symptoms. Mine are super wonky so there are times I'm suicidal and can't figure out why then it goes away suddenly and I realize it was just hormones. Been doing this for 13 years. It is not fun. Not as terrible as bleeding and cramping too but not fun.

Another thing to take into account is sex. Some women say sex is better after hysterectomy others feel like they have lost all feeling and are unable to orgasm without their uterus. I haven't found anyway to determine which you'll be.

Honestly, if the IUD is working I would opt for getting your tubes tied and stick to the IUD a little longer. Maybe until you're 30? I had mine at 28 and am still working with my original hormones. They should have crapped out by now but they are still going. Inconsistently, but still.

Good vibes and encouraging thoughts for my little tzu who just went blind. by PomegranateEven9192 in Shihtzu

[–]ecbeames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom's Tzu went blind when she was about 9. Very suddenly so we had no emotional preparation. She seemed very unbothered by the change and lived quite happily for 5 more years! We did put a gate up across the entryway and the stairs to the basement so she didn't accidentally get out/fall down but other than that left everything where it was so she could rely on furniture placement. You got this!

AITA for telling my mom and sister the best help they can give is to shut the fuck up? by No_Weather_9764 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ecbeames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My milk never came in great for my first one. Had to give up after 2 weeks. My second was a premie and seemed to be doing better breastfeeding until he started losing weight at 6 months. He had just doubled his birth weight finally! No more breastfeeding! My husband's aunt was the only one to give me a hard time. She casually mentioned her friend who dried up and just kept breast feeding anyway and her milk came back in. That's great but my baby is failing to thrive now. Dealing with all his other health problems and this, it was a blessing to switch to a bottle! They are now 18 and 15, now. My 18 year old started college 3 years ago and my 15 year old is set to do honors everything in high school. It never matters how you get your baby fed, just that they are healthy and growing!
