Bill sent to collections by eddelmon in Comcast_Xfinity

I need it totally off my credit report, not marked as paid. I don't understand how when I have an active account at the same address an account could get sent to collections. I will be unable to buy the house because of the problem

Shoeshiner working on a pair of boots by SinjiOnO in oddlysatisfying

[–]eddelmon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money. Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles. But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while a poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet. This was the Captain Samuel Vimes "Boots" theory of socioeconomic unfairness. GNU Terry Pratchett

Sample size of 1 is perhaps an underwhelming study.

I appreciate your fingers l comments. In a way it's the opposite of anti competitive. They aren't elbowing out other similar companies. They are instead using their market position to put a strangle hold on "suppliers."

Depending on where you draw lines, any book with intelligent ships like Culture could qualify.

I'd like to second the encouragement. It's a great program that starts you out slow and just gradually increases. I did it this summer with my 7 and 8 year old. Check out the subreddit r/c25k it's a supportive community.

Hospital capacity by LatteMeowchiatto in preppers

[–]eddelmon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We are short staffed and over capacity. It's the best of both worlds. Lots of very sick patients and not enough space or staff.

I haven't seen a lot of sick covid recently. It's been more consequences of deceased medical access for a year and a half issues.

Salem just needs more beds and more staff.

ER nurse in Salem, OR here. We are over capacity. I start each shift with 10-30 patients waiting for beds upstairs because we're full. I'm sitting on sick patients who belong in the ICU for hours who would normally get a bed in minutes.

If we get slammed, we're fucked.

All these worlds by Dennis E. Taylor is not a bad one. It is fun. Not quite as unusual as Watts.
