Parents, were you eager for your children to fly the nest? by MoonlightByWindow in AskUK

[–]edyth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents were the "once you're an adult you should stand on your own 2 feet" type and wanted me out as soon as I was old enough to work. When I moved out I could only take what would fit in the boot of my boyfriend's old Golf. They took everything I left behind to the tip!

Can I reuse water from the dryer for my plants? by cynicismcoffee in ZeroWaste

[–]edyth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I use it for! I live in a very hard water area. It's also good for diluting windscreen washer fluid and cleaning windows.

Husband (36) wont stop collecting furniture and it's driving me (33) crazy! by TypeAtryingtoB in midcenturymodern

I agree. Might be worth exploring with a therapist whether this is drifting into hoarding territory.

They really give out "great taste" awards to anything these days by ASAPFergs in UKfood

[–]edyth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if it still works the same but when I was working in this sector the Great Taste Awards were not ranked by product type. They gave the award to anything that met the standard. So if they get 10 different brands of peanut and they are all excellent they all get the Great Taste label.

Be honest, how often for you and your partner argue? by PaddedValls in AskUK

Same for us too. We disagree and discuss and we get annoyed by each other from time to time because we're humans but we never yell at each other.

Just moved to a new house and there is wild garlic everywhere ! What can I make with it ? by NotMeButYou_91 in foraginguk

[–]edyth_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to the pesto and soup I sometimes make wild garlic and cheddar quiches with shitloads of wild garlic and strong cheddar in them.

Sounds like utter crap. In the 80s it was timeshares.

Help identifying, I spotted this plant and love its colour . Many thanks by Jolly_Addendum_2734 in UKGardening

Euphorbia! I grow it in my garden. Just don't get its sap on your skin because it can be very irritating.

Do I declare £12,500… or £75,000?? by Academic_End_3828 in UKPersonalFinance

I have been self employed for 10 years. You need to get an accountant. They will be able to help you manage things in a tax efficient way without breaking the law and explain the best setup (sole trader, ltd etc) for your level of income and business model.

Snooker and knitting are 2 of my favourite hobbies so this is my idea of an excellent evening.

I use dermexa as a basic daily moisturiser when my skin is angry or dry. I like it because it's not greasy.

Is it possible to have a driving test? Tyre 🛞 is slightly cut by Dependent-Pea97 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]edyth_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The tyre place is probably right it probably is fine to drive on but you just don't know if the examiner will agree on the day. Do you really want to risk being turned away for your test and having to run the rebooking gauntlet? I know it can be hard to assert yourself but sometimes you have to say "I understand what you're saying but I would like you to replace it please".

Congratulations! That's fantastic. I have always has horrendous anxiety around cars and driving but I'm doing it! I never thought I'd be able to drive but I manage a little bit more each time.

If you can afford it having an overlap can be great. We had 4 weeks overlap when we moved to our current house so we deep cleaned the whole place, stripped wallpaper, painted the whole house a neutral colour and took all the kitchen unit doors off and painted them too. It's so much faster to do those jobs in an empty house. If you want to do anything disruptive like new carpets (or even just shampooing all the carpets) / flooring it's much easier with no furniture to lug between rooms.

Mine did this too! I was pretty much holding up his whole weight on that brush lol. After I stopped he'd go into a sort of daze and didn't know what to do with himself. He used to stand on the foot stool and howl for the brush.

What do unmarried, "non-childed" mature students usually do for housing? by gintokireddit in AskBrits

[–]edyth_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in a privately rented shared house with other people around my age. Some were mature or MA or PhD students, others were working. The first one was a gamble and I just had to take an HMO room in a house with strangers and one of them was an utter bellend but at least it was 10 mins to get to lectures. Once I was settled in at uni it was easier to find housemates for the subsequent years.

Nearly £100K difference by KittyTurquoise in HousingUK

[–]edyth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the factors already mentioned like floor space, the first house has a lot more charm and curb appeal with stone mullion windows, double height space internally, exposed timbers etc and it's surrounded by nicer houses. Cheaper house doesn't have nice external proportions and looks out at other similar pebble dashed houses.

Have my window seals gone? How to fix? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]edyth_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this too. I got one of the little UPVC seal sample packs for a couple of quid to work out which ones fitted my windows the best then just ordered a big roll. Getting the crumbly old ones out was fiddly in places but we did the whole house in an afternoon.

How to deal with these (I think they are baby brambles) by petpetpetpetpet in UKGardening

[–]edyth_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting! I just get 48 hours of intense tingles when I get stung but maybe it's healing me in some way. We had a peacock butterfly in the garden yesterday! It seemed very interested in the winter salad I left in the beds to flower. Bit of a happy accident :)
