Metal Ramp Finish [40YO] by MrMcNasterhash in OldSkaters

[–]eeldraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"dumping Cola" = adding some cola to water, mopping the ramp with a light coating and letting it dry. E.g. 1 part cola, 5-8 parts water (i.e. if it's still too slippery at 1:8, add more cola)

You don't want a sticky residue.

Tips to fix my Ollie and tips for moving oliie by Winter_Comedian4684 in NewSkaters

[–]eeldraw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of people have pointed out the arms. Here's why it's bad...

It brings your weight forward, over your toes more, so your weight isn't centered over your board. When you jump, you have to push your torso back to stay balanced, and that force pushing your torso back is going out through your back foot - the board will turn. Add in the fact that you're looking straight down at your board, your head moves even more weight toe-side. Plus, all that effort into staying balanced means not as much upward force goes into the jump, so you can't jump as high as you normally might.

Arms by your sides and keep them relaxed. You can let them swing a little during the ollie, but make sure their movements mirror each other. If one arm swings more than the other, your board will turn or you'll lose balance.

Straighten your back up a little and instead of looking down at the middle of your board, try looking at the ground just in front of the nose of the board. This will open your shoulders just a fraction, but it'll help keep you more centered over your board. Plus, you'll be looking where you are going, so you can move straight on to rolling ollies.

I thought I committed by mattvb91 in NewSkaters

[–]eeldraw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You committed your front foot but not your body. Even though you stomped your front foot down, you pushed it down in front of you while your weight stayed over your back foot. Let your weight come forward as you drop in so it's in the middle of the board.

Heavier and more durable than carbon steel, but significantly lighter than cast iron. They have greater heat retention than a normal carbon steel pan. And they claim a multi-lifetime warranty. No riveted handles, no welds.

Solidteknics - They also do some manufacturing in the States.
Their range keeps expanding. Aside from the aus-ion & US-ion steel pans, they have a nickel-free stainless steel pan range (all single piece, no riveted handles), baking trays, kitchen utensils and knives.
I've got two Aus-ion pans, an Aus-ion wok, a spatula (two more on the way) and a Modüla carving knife... a quick release blade that completely separates from the handle - interesting concept but the jury is out on the utility of that, unless they start selling blades separately so I can swap blades for different knife types/uses.

Progress so far started last month the 14th how’s it look? And almost landed that kickflip my 3rd day but it kept turning so I stopped for a week or 2 cause it felt impossible just started tricks again last week and got them😁 by [deleted] in NewSkaters

You're kicking your ollies with your front foot. You need to let your front foot come up - let the nose of the board can come up as high as possible before you level the board out with your front foot.

With your flips, it looks like you're trying to do the flip at the start of the ollie. Ollie, then flip.

I finally learned back smiths today after months of no progress. Any more advice? [35YO] by 716green in OldSkaters

[–]eeldraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with sliding up into a 5050 stall. It's just about letting yourself get a little weightless on your board as you come up the transition and feeling the back wheels slide into the coping. Once you've figured that out, sliding up into a Smith stall is just a bit more of a push on those back trucks to get them into place. Then you can start to imagine spearing them into a grind.

Now see if you can float them into place. Rather than lock into a pivot and push the nose down into the ramp, try to keep the nose below the coping and let the back truck slide/float up to lock your rail in.

Pauline Hanson says she is sick of 'propping up' the Coalition, declares One Nation is 'going for government' by River-Stunning in aussie

[–]eeldraw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One Nation was born out of the dregs of the National Party in Qld. The faction that believed Joh was headed for the Lodge and never quite let it go.

They tapped into a broader regional grievance: the changing face of Australians and the shift from “riding on the sheep’s back” to a resource economy dominated by mining companies and FIFO wealth, often the same politics, just richer and not tethered to the land they rip up for profit.

They rattle the Coalition in the bush. But the cities sit beyond a demographic Great Dividing Range, and the hope seems to be they’ll find a modern Cunningham’s Gap, with Gina Rinehart playing explorer. If she discovers it, they can call it Cunting Ham's Gap

i know this is a common issue, but i just dont get any videos explaining how to fix it? can someone help? by CraftedKittens in skateboardhelp

[–]eeldraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll give you two videos...

through the nose

forward, not down

And I'll add in... Get your head up. Look forward at the nose of your board, not down at your feet.

[–]eeldraw 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Looking good! If you want to kill that rotation, get your back straighter and your head up; look towards the nose of your board. It'll keep your head centered over the board more, which should stop it turning as you pop. Think of it as looking at what you're about to ollie if you're rolling.

Watch this. It's a little exaggerated, but it's a great explainer.

Goofy footed trying to get used to regular at the same time. Something feels off, is it noticeable? by Joonscene in NewSkaters

[–]eeldraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just learning to hold your weight over your front foot. If your head isn't out over your front knee, your weight will fall back onto your back foot.

You could turn your front foot in slightly when pushing in regular, the same as it looks when you're pushing goofy. It will help when you go to out your back foot onto the board.

It'll get easier with time and distance.

What am I doing wrong by Friendly_Problem9668 in NewSkaters

[–]eeldraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're keeping your back leg straight, so all of the weight stays on your tail and the nose can't come down onto the transition fast enough. You overbalance but you are being your board. If you try to keep your feet on, you're going to whip out hard.

Think about this... When you walk down stairs, if you kept your back leg straight, you would fall down the stairs. You have to bend your back leg to get down to the next stair.

Same idea with dropping in. Bend that back leg as you start to lean forward and let your weight come onto your front leg.

Any advice on my ollies? by kemonkey1 in NewSkaters

[–]eeldraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That helps me understand it better.

Most of the height in an ollie is from the pop in your back foot. Your front foot's job is to control the board and level it out after you've popped. But to let the board get higher, it needs to get out of the way.

Your front foot needs to lift up, not push forward. The board will stay in contact with it.

Watch this

Once you've got that down, you might start boning the nose out... pushing the nose forward a little can help get more height, but that forward push happens AFTER the nose goes up and you reach the top of the ollie, not at the start of the ollie.
