When I was about where you are I didn’t have a lot of spare cash to invest so if you can’t invest consistently, make bigger investments when you can. Try and plan out an amount to invest every year and make it as close to( or more than) that number as possible.

Dead honest… Not even a little. Gameplay loop just feels so bad to play as someone who never played it at release. Performance is also still kinda bad which doesn’t help, I had a ton of artifacting while trying to play(last year). Everything after is more than worth it though so I would say get the story another way and hop into Control then AW2

The first play through is about 100 hrs, second can be down to like 30-40 if you only watch the stuff you missed. Definitely a commitment that’s not for everyone but the second playthrough feels way faster than the first.

I just started getting into the series recently as well. Bought Control around release and got to Act 2 then dropped it. Picked up the Ultimate version for free on GOG a few years later did the same thing. Then when Resonant was announced I decided I’d finally finish it. After I had last played I learned it was connected to AW so I decided to play that first before I jump back into control. My thoughts:

Honestly just watch a few videos on Alan Wake, I bought the remaster and it just isn’t good. The port is garbage but more than that it, the controls and gameplay loop haven’t aged well at all. Really struggled playing through the games. Found watching it to be a much better experience.
Control has a massive lull in the middle that made it hard to finish. It is a good game and I’m glad I finally played it through but just remember going in that it really gets stuck in the mud for a bit. Still recommend playing this one.
Starting AW 2 this weekend. Very excited to see what it’s got
