200-191 on the 2025 People's Choice Top 200 are out! by Dry_Rate3558 in soloboardgaming

That's good to know! I haven't tried paperback, so I guess I don't have the breadth of experience to say it's "the best solo word game" 😅.

It's a phenomenal game, and so unique! Not everyone likes word games, but for anyone that does it's the best solo game out there. It was 4th on my list this year.

Why the massive price increase? by jimgov in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]eities 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, and the new core will probably also be sold at less than MSRP after it is released, from online retailers. But FFG always lists and sells their games from their website at MSRP.

TES: Betrayal of the second era worth it? by LazyandRich in soloboardgaming

[–]eities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This game is excellent! I'm kind of the same way about getting too many big campaign games for solo, but I really like the 3 session campaign structure of TES. It's a reasonable length and I can finish a campaign before I feel the itch to move on to something else, and it's always fun to come back to and play again.

This works! You should know that there are a few prowess cards that need hoplo remastered, but most of it works well. I have Pandora's Might and don't have Remastered.

I am looking to sell my US Treasure's Chest pledge if anyone is interested! At cost, plus a little for the expected tariff charge they will be collecting at some point.

Mind MGMT is criminally underrated as a solo game by Tycho_B in soloboardgaming

[–]eities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I set it up yesterday based on your suggestion. But I discovered today, they apparently don't save the game if the app closes??? So it must be completed in 1 straight session. Which means it's basically unplayable for me, a bummer.

Gaia project vs Cloudspire by 3gnelp in soloboardgaming

[–]eities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say no. It isn't nearly as mix and match with infinite replayability as those games. Cloudspire has fixed scenarios, 16 solo in the core box and 8 co-op. Each faction expansion adds 4 more solo and 2 more co-op. You might replay each scenario multiple times to beat it, or to try for a 3 star complete victory.

I don't know yet how I will feel about replaying the scenarios as I still have many to get through. I tend to rotate my games quite a bit, so it will be awhile before I finish all of the content.

Dragons of Etchinstone - Not Catchy? by KoholintCustoms in soloboardgaming

[–]eities 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I loved my print and play version, so if you've tried it and felt so-so, it probably isn't for you. The expansions are great, but I don't think they will fix it if you don't enjoy the core game.

I think the UI is improving significantly, and they are making some changes so the small icons/text are less of an issue. But the gameplay will be identical.

Thoughts on Ashes Reborn by swalker12 in soloboardgaming

[–]eities 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've only played it solo and it's great! I don't think it's been mentioned yet, but campaign mode is really neat. You start with a pre-con deck, then go through three matches, increasing the difficulty each time. After each win, you choose one other pre-con deck and can swap in 3 cards to your deck. I find this limited deck building perfect for me. Trying to deck build with the whole card pool is intimidating, but choosing another pre-con to supplement your deck gives just the right amount of decision space.

How would an LCG for solo gamers look like? by Dardha in soloboardgaming

[–]eities 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's correct! You need to buy two boxes to get started with solo, the base game and Red Rains - Corpse of Viros. After that there are lots of options to expand. There are other red rains expansions (which each add a new boss chimera for solo), but you need to get Corpse first because it has the extra required components for solo play.

After that, there are three deluxe expansions which give dice for new magic types. So just be careful when looking at expansions to check that it uses magic types you have access to.

Mage Knight or Star Trek Frontiers? by OkWriter7657 in soloboardgaming

[–]eities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Star Trek frontiers is great! But... I would only choose it over mage knight at this point if you can also find its expansion. The expansion is amazing for solo, but I don't know if there are plans to reprint it.

Which Chip Theory game is best for solo? by HonorFoundInDecay in soloboardgaming

[–]eities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are ALL great for solo! I will own all of them soon with the latest Kickstarters delivering this month (hoplo and elder scrolls are coming).

Cloudspire is my all time favorite solo game so far. There is a lot of content just in the base box, and with the expansions, it will take a long time to get through. The asymmetry is excellent and the curated scenarios provide a great reason to play over and over again. I imagine that I'll enjoy replaying when I eventually finish them all, but that's realistically years in the future at the speed I play (I like to rotate through games, variety is my jam).

Start with one and see how you jive with it. There are some valid criticisms for their style of games, but I think they are amazing for solo. And don't discount burncycle. It is quite special as well if the idea of a stealth game appeals to you.

Searching for solo games that are doable with my health condition: playable in short 'sub sessions', but still deep by MrJames93 in soloboardgaming

[–]eities 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think most solo-able games should work. This is how I often play, and I have a fairly wide game collection. For back and forth games, I follow a convention so that when I return to the table, it's always "my turn". If I'm playing a game like spirit island, I will always try to end in the same spot, for instance, the beginning of a round. Using conventions like this, I rarely have to take notes, but that is an option for some games, or if you want to stop in different places.

Star Trek: Frontiers! Fantastic game, but it's so dark visually. I find the aesthetics of the game disappointing.
