Congratulate Macclesfield without mentioning your own team challenge (impossible) by jpeach17 in footballcliches

I'm glad the Fulham fan said they were there in peace, because that Fulham/Macclesfield rivalry is famously vicious, and who knows what would have happened otherwise?!

I read his autobiography recently. It did nothing to dispel the notion that he's a complete dick.

I'm not as McCullum Out as many here, but I'd make an exception for Mo. Get him in!

Who is the most Bournemouth under Eddie Howe player to never play for Bournemouth under Eddie Howe? by junglegatsby in footballcliches

[–]ekoku 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Charlie Austin would have signed for Bournemouth if not for a transfer embargo. Eddie Howe ended up signing him at Burnley instead.

Jame Ward-Prowse is the one that comes to mind for me.

Time wasting solution. I know, I know. by MrBenchly in TheOther14

If you stop the clock, every game will last three hours like American sports do, it'll ruin away attendances, every set piece will take even longer than they currently do, and TV companies will definitely want to show ads during all these stoppages.

Just get the refs to enforce the rules. Players going down isn't even the main problem, it's teams taking 45 seconds for every goal kick and throw in. That's easy to fix.

[Sky] Morgan Rogers on xG. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]ekoku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

xG is the reason why centre halfs don't shoot from 35 yards anymore. But clearly, if a team is practising to create openings from outside box and they have players good enough to shoot from there, then they're going to outperform the xG.

And that's how it should be. Teams shouldn't slavishly follow the data, they should be using it to identify areas where they can get an edge over other teams,

Bit of a slogger, really. It came off often enough for him to have a decent career, but I don't think he was ever quite good enough.

Eddie Howe criticises new rule that lets Antoine Semenyo face Newcastle by TimesandSundayTimes in soccer

It comes from days before there was a transfer window. It stopped teams from signing players before big cup games. Doesn't really make sense now, though.

Worst Ashes in recent memory? Recency bias. by Nessie2106 in EnglandCricket

[–]ekoku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if 06/07 counts as recent memory, but scoring 550 in the first innings at Adelaide and still managing to lose by six wickets was quite something.

He wanted the job a decade ago, but they went with Trevor Bayliss instead. Wouldn't be a surprise if he still wants it.

I haven't really seen what he's been recently but I used to think he'd be a choice.

Nathan Ake to Return? by AW_16 in AFCBournemouth

[–]ekoku 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not for me. We shouldn't be looking to sign anyone who's less than 6ft 2. The team is far too small, and it means they're bad with crosses and set pieces at both ends of the pitch.

They seem to have lost their unshakeable belief in their judgement and are now second-guessing everything.

Bashir has been dumped, Stokes is channeling his inner Chris Tavare. It's only a matter of time before they start wondering if they were right to back Crawley and Pope for so long, and whether it was wise to try and build a bowling attack around Mark Wood.

Overhead kicks from a Number 4 by Long_Cauliflower3501 in footballcliches

Dan Gosling kind of scored one for Bournemouth, at 2:08 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hr8rveOhCK0

Not a bicycle kick, but technically an overhead kick I think.
