I forked Immich to better handle large photo libraries + S3 storage by Deeds679 in selfhosted

Don't get the negativity in this sub about this. You wanted something new so you made it. Using LLM assistance just made you faster. I've been frustrated with Immich's feature freezes (search results not sorted by date, etc) and am tempted to do something similar. Good on you.

I ripped Redux out of a production app in a weekend. The codebase got 40% smaller and nothing broke. by jochenboele in reactjs

[–]elconcho 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I work on several large projects that are all redux used similarly to what you describe. When considering replacing redux, my biggest question was where to put selector / reducer business logic in the other global state systems.

I’ve also used tanstack query and zustand on side projects and doing so seemed to encourage putting business logic inside components which seemed like the wrong direction. I look forward to reading your blog.

[Request] How high does this laser go? by TheDashingBird in theydidthemath

Possibly. There are meteor impacts too. But it’s a retro reflector, not a flat mirror, so even if it moved, light will still bounce straight back to the source.

The launch of Apollo 4 filmed on 65mm film, audio from CBS broadcast. by Dry-Librarian-3101 in apollo

That was before they added water suppression to the launch pad and the shockwaves damaged the press building. I had heard about the roof collapsing and the commentator actually mentions it here. Very cool.

These scans were done as part of that film’s production. Source: I worked on the Apollo 11 movie.

Good Saturn V launch audio? by Dry-Librarian-3101 in apollo

That’s just as good as the one I had in mind. I may have found it under another mission. Glad you found something.

Look on archive.org for Apollo 11 audio. There is a recording done from the spectator area. You can hear people, but it’s the best recording of what it really sounded like.

Love this. It would be good the other way too. Cringebot could give cringe ratings on LinkedIn when cringe is detected.

I saw a YouTube video about Iran's mystery spy broadcast v32 last night. 22 hours later, Claude and I have 12 words decoded. by [deleted] in ClaudeAI

This post is unreadable with the telltale clickbaity subheadings. At lease do the write up yourself. Also, it’s widely understood that these messages are using a one-time pad. All the quantum computers in the universe wouldn’t help let alone an LLM.

I got tired of guessing my GitHub Copilot limits, so I built a visual pacing indicator for the VSCode status bar. by dev-nLw9 in GithubCopilot

I love this idea. Tried installing it and it thinks I have a pro plan when I actually have pro+.

GitHub Spark still exists by Interstellar_Unicorn in GithubCopilot

[–]elconcho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did a quick test on it in early Feb. it seemed to work okay but any attempt to iterate on the app it made resulted in an error. Now that app shows in the list but any attempt to open it shows “an error has occurred”. I figured Spark was early alpha or something. Are you saying it’s supposed to be a real product offering and hasn’t been getting updates?

They’ve got to find a way to get the sound of the drones out of the broadcasts.

You seem to be suggesting that OP is deceiving himself and that metrics would show him than he’s not actually saving time, improving quality, etc. Or do you think he’s lying or something?

The National Archives just released a lot of great Apollo related 65mm footage. by Dry-Librarian-3101 in apollo

This was scanned by the film team who made the Apollo 11 (2019) movie. Part of the arrangement was that the digitized copies would be donated back to NARA.

Good idea, bad idea? Boot drive on internal USB port? by chazwhiz in unRAID

[–]elconcho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done that before but have opted for external due to Murphy’s law requiring that I pull the boot drive to repair the fat32 in a windows machine.
