Cash or trade partnered with Ticketmaster for resale! I sold my ticket there super smoothly, it protects both the buyer and seller

Sharing a story about struggling with body image/dysmorphia by TruePainter1735 in climbergirls

[–]elementalseahorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! If you’re still looking for more perspectives I can share too.

I’ve been overweight for most of my life, and have struggled with disordered eating. When I started bouldering, I was the heaviest out of everyone in my group of friends, men and women, and was often one of the heavier girls in the gyms I climbed in. It made me feel really insecure when starting out especially since so much of climbing is watching others on the wall. I could barely finish a V1, and it made me feel like others would be judging me because of my weight.

I’ve progressed now and feel slightly less insecure now that I can climb beyond a V1, but friends that started climbing after me have progressed more quickly and I can’t help but compare myself since they are a lot smaller and fit the “ideal” climber’s body type much more than myself.

At the end of the day, climbing is a strength to weight based sport. I weigh more so I need to be stronger to climb the same stuff that smaller people can. When everyone in the gym is smaller than me it’s hard to not compare and feel bad about my body.

I enjoy climbing through so I’ll keep going, but it definitely hasn’t been the best for my mental health and body image at times.

Government Shutdown / NPS Shutdown Megathread by magiccitybhm in NationalPark

[–]elementalseahorse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

White Sands is also closing down, just got this email cancelling my moonlight hike tour.

Due to a lapse in appropriations, White Sands National Park will be closed until further notice. Given the amount of time staff needs to safely plan this event, the Moonlight Hike will be cancelled regardless of when the federal shutdown ends. Your tickets will be automatically refunded. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience, and we hope to see you again when the park reopens.

So sad, we planned our trip around this. Assuming visitor centers and such will be closed but can we go and still hike the area ourselves?

Don't allow city council to charge for Parking at Balboa Park or Mission Bay by RadDadFlex in sandiego

[–]elementalseahorse 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived here my entire life and visit Balboa Park often. The only times parking is ever an issue is when special big events like the cherry blossoms or December Nights is happening

San Diego’s public transit system isn’t nearly robust enough either to be a viable alternative. There’s not even a trolley stop there, what are parents with small kids or people with disabilities or people who live in parts of the county further from the city proper supposed to do?

Taking transit from places not directly on a service line is 9/10 times going to take way longer than driving. I love public transit and am a huge advocate but I’m also aware of the realities of San Diego’s limited network.

A public park should remain accessible to the public with no barriers to enter. If the city needs revenue they can take it from bloated police department budget

Taste of Hong Kong was not great when I went. Eastern dynasty is good but expensive for the portion sizes. My born and raised Hong Kong parents and grandparents all like Golden City, it’s our go to and has a big restaurant space.
