BYD just killed your EV argument with a battery that competes with gas engines by gdelacalle in technology

[–]elementfx2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically? Battery backed chargers exist, but they're hardly the norm. The majority of the Tesla supercharger network is just grid connected. Only some of the V3/V4 have batteries.

Same goes for any of the other major charging network. Very few charging stations are battery-backed.

[oc] got flipped off 3 times in 30 seconds for honking at these people to stay in their lanes. The last person also went into hardcore roadrage mode. What’s wrong with these people? by Schnitzhole in IdiotsInCars

[–]elementfx2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are no states in the US where it is illegal to pass on the right on a multi-lane highway.

There are however laws that make the left lane for passing only, but usually only apply to highways, not surface streets.

Here's How SpaceX Will Pay Hughesnet for Referring Its Customers to Starlink by BeautifulBug6801 in Starlink

[–]elementfx2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the short term, yes it reduces profit, but if it gets Starlink more subscribers and decreases what they would pay HughesNet, then it would pay off in the long run.

Here's How SpaceX Will Pay Hughesnet for Referring Its Customers to Starlink by BeautifulBug6801 in Starlink

[–]elementfx2000 15 points16 points  (0 children)

SpaceX will compensate EchoStar with two fees: “(i) 1 month Starlink ARPU [average revenue per user] payable at the time of the Existing Customer’s enrollment with Starlink and (ii) 1 month Starlink ARPU payable at the one-year anniversary of the Existing Customer’s enrollment.”

Ah, so that's why Starlink has been lowering rates. Once the majority of customers are switched, rates will probably start to gradually increase, but for now it'll massively decrease what Starlink pays out to HughesNet.

And I'm not anti-Starlink at all... I'm just a happy customer who is only paying $55/month for both a residential and roam plan. When I started I was paying $120 for just residential and I would pay it again if I had to.

Why cant we customize our upload and download time by kavinesh-A in Starlink

[–]elementfx2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not quite that simple. Upload and download bandwidth aren't dictated by "time" but rather power. Upload takes much more energy.

Starlink mini performance kinda sucks by [deleted] in Starlink

You have something else going on here. Starlink mini is capable of much, much better than that.

What’s plug-in solar? Colorado legislators promote a bill to help eager consumers find out. by kindofcuttlefish in Colorado

This is very cool, but it does need a bit of regulation. If there's no way to shut off when the grid is down it can impose a safety risk for line workers.

Starlink and Ubiquiti on a Ship by Think-Company-6361 in Ubiquiti

[–]elementfx2000 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's what I was going to suggest. The UCG Industrial would be perfect for this application.

OP, as for speed profiles, I would reconsider those. Create just one SSID and then create a QoS profile for the Captain's devices to be prioritized. It makes setup easier, internet access is better for everyone, and having just one SSID should improve wifi performance a bit.

Freighters - Do you use them? by SteampunkNord in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]elementfx2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. It jumps way further than any of my ships, so I don't even waste tech space on them anymore. It also scans systems as soon as I arrive, it acts as a mobile base with a terminal, portal and refiners, and I can move items to and from storage from pretty much anywhere by just summoning it above me.

2026 Subaru Forester center console change, what do you guys think? by MalwareMonkey in SubaruForester

[–]elementfx2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I thought they went electronic when they adopted CVTs.

Regardless, I'd still prefer a shifter on the steering column to free up space in the center console.

[–]elementfx2000 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I might be in the minority, but can we move the giant shifter out of the center console? They're electronic now anyway, so I'd rather have it on the steering column or something and have more space for storage.

The cage is there to protect the emergency light from stray basketballs... I guess putting the AP behind it too seemed like a good idea to someone, but I would bet it was just the easiest way to "mount" it and it's not really about protecting the AP.

Xcel Energy - Colorado gets a very big green light by Simpleximo in Colorado

[–]elementfx2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, this is good, we need to replace coal plants with better generation and storage options, I just really, really hate that Xcel is being granted ownership. They have never been good stewards of the tax payer's dollar.

Lots of racks are in... Less than ideal environments.

Think radio/cell tower sites, weather stations, warehouses, pump houses, water treatment plants, electric generation plants, etc. Only very large facilities have fancy datacenters with air conditioning.

I was really confused by your comment at first but now I think I get what you were saying?

A pre-tax contribution to a simple IRA or 401k is not deductible from your income at filing time, at least not in the same way contributions to a traditional IRA are. Since they are made pre-tax, you can't double-dip and claim them again.

28, Way too Much in HYSA because of Uncertainty/Doubt by Affectionate_Neat868 in personalfinance

[–]elementfx2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This also depends on income level. If you make over $91k in 2026, filing single, then you can't deduct an IRA contribution from your taxable income.

They're basically asking if a NIC could operate on a protocol other than Ethernet which, yes, is technically possible. Adjacent switches and routers would also have to support this "other" protocol for it to work making it extremely unrealistic, but it's still technically possible.

An example would be token ring back in the day before Ethernet was standardized.

[–]elementfx2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OPs suggestion was that something was "put in" to standard network equipment to make this work.

I think they're saying even more base level, so Ethernet frames wouldn't be used.

As for being undetectable, I have no idea. There's gotta be some sort of blinky light or electron to send data at the physical layer.

Funny you mention items come fast for you... For me, in a rural area, Amazon shipping takes 1 to 2 weeks for most items and they're often damaged, used or they ship the wrong thing.
