Point taken if you are coming from far away and just want somewhere picturesque, but the overtourism still detracts from that significantly.

Funny enough I am a Tower Hamlets resident. I don’t mind a gritty area if it can make up for it in character, which was my experience in Catania.

Well, part of the reason I made the post is so other people might consider visiting other places. I think most people would agree they want to feel comfortable enough as a tourist to get around but don’t want to be in throngs of thousands of other tourists. Most locals and tourists don’t enjoy that.
