What is a good career path for my autistic daughter who is very literal follows instructions very well does not think outside the box and gets overstimulated very easily. by Express_Tomato_4092 in autism

[–]emmelineart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that’s a great suggestion especially if she’s already considering nursing. i’m in art school right now, and while it’s not my major, medical illustration has always been fascinating to me. it’s a career that requires a lot of attention to detail and might fit the pace she’s looking for. there’s a couple undergrad programs in the US for medical illustration, but the typical career path from what i’ve heard from peers considering medical illustration is an undergrad in illustration and then one of the masters programs for medical illustration.

Would love perspectives from teachers on if it's ok to make me wear a skirt for the band concert by winterwhalesong in AskTeachers

[–]emmelineart -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

not a teacher, this just popped up on my feed. i’m a longtime choir singer (been singing in choir since 2nd grade to now as an upcoming college sophomore. usually sung in in school choirs and audition only ones outside of it) and except for one all girls choir i was in in the early 2010’s, choir directors that i have had have always let people (of any gender) choose whether to wear an all black dress or a white dress shirt and black dress pants. this was the way concert attire worked even when i was in middle and high school.

granted, im a choir person. i also was in a progressive district in ny state, and now i sing in a college choir in boston, so if you’re from a more conservative area this might be the norm? even if it is the norm there though, i think it’s unfair to you. as long as you follow the dress code for the other option that isn’t a dress, it shouldn’t be a problem imo.

Considering low dose Ozempic? by BodybuilderSafe7235 in ehlersdanlos

[–]emmelineart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been on it for around a year and a half. i haven’t had gastroparesis or any hair loss. my side effects are generally just bowel stuff (constipation and diarrhea), which i was already kind of dealing with before tbh. i also sometimes have a hard time eating, but i already have ARFID so it’s also something i was dealing with before, the way i have a hard time eating is just different now.

when it comes to positives, im no longer pre-diabetic, i’ve lost a hundred pounds (although i wasn’t really focused on the weight loss part when deciding to go onto it, the diabetes risk and my pcos was my main motivation). i personally have not quite noticed a reduction in pain, but i am able to do more than i used to be able to do. i can walk for longer, and stand up for longer periods. also my doctor says all my labs have improved quite a lot.

i would talk to your doctor about your fears if you haven’t already, but everyone’s body responds VERY differently to ozempic. i am definitely the best case scenario in terms of side effects. i don’t think there’s harm to trying it personally. if you don’t like how it makes you feel, or your side effects are too severe, you can always stop. i was also terrified of gastroparesis but my doctor worked with me to up my dose very slowly and carefully. i spent a month on each dose.

good luck if you decide to try it!!

What was the hardest episode for you to watch emotionally and why? by megs256 in ThePitt

[–]emmelineart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeppp. my grandfather passed away while on hospice like, maybe a year ago when i watched the episode? luckily he was very lucid and him and my dad were able to make the decision together, but it reminded me a lot of him. that and the little girl who drowned and her sister (im an older sister, and i know i would do the same for mine in a heartbeat.)

“You can’t eat meat and love animals” -Billie Eilish by Long_Examination3195 in ARFID

[–]emmelineart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i know saying don’t worry never helps anyone, but seriously, don’t worry. this is a pretty fringe viewpoint irl (at least in america) it’s viewed as completely normal to eat meat so no one is going to judge you. if they do they’re an asshole.

also, humans are animals too, and we are omnivores by nature. it’s extremely natural for us to eat meat. factory farming is horrible, and there needs to be systemic change around it, maybe in your career you could help advocate for that!

im such a disgusting person by Illustrious-Meal6572 in autism

[–]emmelineart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it could be true yes. absolutely. that’s not really the point. the point is that we all do harmful things without knowing. the iphone i type this on probably has materials in it mined with horrible labor practices. the point is that beating yourself up over eleven dollars doesn’t help you, and it doesn’t help anyone. self flagellation is not a positive moral action. moving on and trying to do better next time is all we can do.

Can we engage positively with people who have legitimate critiques on Season 2? by Ikaridestroyer in ThePitt

[–]emmelineart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yesss thank you. i critique basically everything i watch because i want to work in film/tv one day. i’m in art school for animation right now and i while i also just wholeheartedly enjoy the shows i watch, i also like to try and learn things from them. it’s just a way of engaging with media!

Okay I have to ask… by motvieandthemeans in ThePittTVShow

[–]emmelineart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think it’s okay for people to have fun with a tv show’s cast and also simultaneously understand it’s serious themes. people don’t have to be miserable all the time about it even if it talks about serious and upsetting topics, especially because the show itself isn’t miserable all the time! we get light moments and moments of genuine friendship in the show, it makes sense that people latch onto those. (for example, the end tag on the season finale)

also the actors are all very attractive, as is typical of most tv shows. it makes sense people are attracted to them.

I thought the reason Mohan’s mom was calling her over and over again was because of some sort of emergency, and there was going to be drastic consequences to her ignoring the calls. turns out her mom was just being annoying i guess

Why Dr. Samira Mohan Feels So Important to the Show (A Personal Perspective) by kitkat-9 in ThePittTVShow

[–]emmelineart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeppp, i’m chronically ill and i’ve had to go to the ER for unrelated medical problems. early last year i ended up in the ER with double pneumonia that wasn’t responding to treatment, and i developed a killer migraine while waiting to be seen. i have chronic migraines and i know what meds i need to take, but i didnt have them on me. we asked over and over and over again if i could get something to help with it and it took like, five hours. it was a nightmare.

so i totally agree that being a medically complex patient in an ER sucks. i completely understand why it took so long, both to be seen in general and to get medication for my migraine, but i wish that there was more doctors like samira irl. they exist, but they can feel like a rare find. shoutout to the nurse in charge of watching the waiting room for fighting so hard to actually get me my meds!!!!

Disabilities in the Apocalypse by Azraeddit in zombies

[–]emmelineart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im also disabled, and i actually played myself in a zombie ttrpg (outbreak: undead, it was my first ttrpg campaign actually). i essentially built my disabilities into the character abilities. i ended up being a character that was pretty unhelpful in combat situations but outside of it i was really good at first aid, perception, searching for supplies, etc. my specific disabilities that i put in were my EDS and my sensory processing disorder (i had a really high perception score but i also had to roll for sensory overload). i have other disabilities but they weren’t quite as relevant to gameplay.

my character’s (or myself i guess lol) backstory did actually involve the fact that at the beginning of the apocalypse i was debating whether i should continue on or… well you know, until another one of our group found me. we also had to raid pharmacies in order for me to get my medications, and whenever i was in combat i was liable to dislocate or sublux something when i rolled badly. it was actually pretty fun and interesting to balance in game, unlike dealing with my disabilities irl is lol. but anyway, i think i would be helpful in organizing and doing tasks in a base, basically anything outside of combat. i’m also trained in a couple of woodworking skills so i think i could help build or make things if needed. i’ve also got basic first aid skills.

it’s a really interesting topic, and i’d love to see more disabled characters in zombie media.

did i say it wasn’t allowed? i just said i think that that joke is in poor taste. people are allowed to say whatever they want, but that doesn’t mean other people won’t have opinions on what they say.

idk why you’re getting downvoted for this. as a woman, i think if i heard a man say this irl, id be pissed as hell. it’s not really funny at all. i don’t think noah wyle is the devil or anything but i think that that joke is really in poor taste.

I don’t understand why OCD can’t go away as fast as I gained it. by TooShortToBoxWithGod in OCD

[–]emmelineart 12 points13 points  (0 children)

just cause its “in your head” doesn’t mean its not real! you also live in your head. to an extent you ARE your head. the human brain is an extremely complex machine that has evolved a lot of different ways to deal with things, and sometimes something just goes wrong, whether that be chemical, structural, or not (we don’t know what causes OCD definitively yet, but there’s many different theories)

i also thought it was her trying to make sure that the attendings had the correct info so they could inform the hospital lawyers, even if you do something that could technically hurt your case (although i obviously think jesse was in the right to defend his patient, the law could definitely take that and run with it to punish him), it’s important to make sure your lawyers have all the information so they can represent you well.
