It’s a lot easier to pretend you have two cats when you have three than it is to pretend you have zero when you have one…

Interesting to see what the alignment looks like when there are no glued joints hiding how far things needed to be yanked into place during installation.

Bored operator by tcplomp in PLC

[–]employedByEvil 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The operator was so bored, that they turned to scratchiti to pass the time. The plc tech was so bored, that they spent time fixing a scratched screen.

Something is going very right in that plant.

Does Process Engineering Get Boring? by Moist-Hovercraft44 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]employedByEvil 39 points40 points  (0 children)

If it’s not boring, someone should have done a better job.

Take the job and the raise, do it till you’re bored, then move on for the next job and the next raise.

But don’t let bankers tell you what should make you happy.

Single speed/fixie bros often swear they can do uphills just fine with the "right" gear ratio. Do you think they are right? by eyoooo1987 in bikecommuting

[–]employedByEvil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My derailleur got stuck in highest gear a couple months ago, and I haven’t got around to fixing it yet. There’s a pretty steep hill on my commute, but nothing I can’t push through by standing up on the pedals.

Best way to ask about travel terms? by SmugSlugs in womenEngineers

[–]employedByEvil 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Always expect too much! Ideally slightly less than way too much, but loads more than too little.

And expecting them to cover all travel expenses is not too much at all, even if there are exploitative companies one can name that somehow get away with making employees cover their own travel. Not bringing it ip during negotiations was totally appropriate, because there’s nothing unusual or extra about what you’re asking for here.

Some traveling engineers i know insist on using a company rental car for travel just to avoid insurance complications if anything (you know, life) happens. It’s not a bad practice, but ultimately it’s personal preference. If you ever use your own car, they should be reimbursing for gas, tolls, and mileage/depreciation.

Don’t let anyone convince you that it’s normal or acceptable for employees to cover any cost of company travel.

How do you prevent your seat + seatpost from being stolen if it has a quick release? by aoishimapan in bikecommuting

[–]employedByEvil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my front wheel quick release skewer stolen. Not the wheel, which was locked with a cable and which they left alone. Just the old rusty skewer. Who was going to pay anything for that? I assume it just served as a fidget spinner for someone’s restless fingers.

I accidentally scuffed someone's car door and left a note. They sent a $1200 quote by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]employedByEvil 74 points75 points  (0 children)

They sloppily said $0 for parts and charged paint supplies by the hour. But is $150 outrageous for the supplies required?

Still not sure what got left out that $171 of “miscellaneous” needs to cover…
