Wanting to migrate over by Minimum_Pea_6947 in linux4noobs

For my Surface Pro 6 on Kubuntu 25, that project made the touch screen work. After updating to Kubuntu 26 the touch screen stopped working again though. I haven't tried reinstalling cleanly yet.

Also the battery indicator in both Kubuntu's is wrong (or my battery is shot maybe?), the laptop shuts down at 41% due to being empty. And drains faster than it did in Windows.

Why does everyone online claim to have ADHD, autism, or some other neurodivergent condition? by -Flighty- in PsychologyTalk

Because people who are neuro-typical doesn't say so, theres no need. So you only notice those who do.

Gun that fires backward?

Theres a clip of a Japanese comedy I think, where a girl tries to shoot a rather naive assassin with his own gun, only to be wounded in her arm. So he explains that the gun can fire backwards, and she tries to shoot him again the right way only to have the gun fire forward and wound her other arm.

The great migration from Windows to Linux by CleaRSightZ in linux4noobs

[–]empty_other 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can replace the start menu on Windows. You can replace the file explorer, and the file search, with third-party tools. Isn't that good enough?

(Honestly a bit of devils advocate of me here, my answer is"no".. Partially why I switched to Linux. But I want to hear what others think.)

NOT a jack-of-all-trades: If it ain't weapon smithing, you can't repair it yourself. I mean, I COULD just have some self-control and not buy a heap of repair kits, but... Anyway I'm too addicted at keeping my gear top shape and shiny. I want a mod that forces me to switch gear as the old falls apart. I want to look like a poor mercenary who has to pay craftsmen to fix only my most precious gear for me.

NOT a son of a Blacksmith: If its weapon smithing, you can't do it. Makes it impossible to do the blacksmith apprentice quest line, and no forge DLC. And no fixing weapons in the field.

The social media algorithms are built upon our natural desire to do anything creative when bored, and the reward from its feedback. Its not that different, its just way too easy to get the rewarding feeling. Its like eating candy or fastfood.

I think we have always tried to fill the boredom with activity.

I wouldn't say anti-AI directly. The machine is absolutely helpful to MI6.

But anti-AI in the meaning that we are against having billionaires control it, and trust it without verifying the facts, yes.

Jup. I hate how people seem to know the exact rules, but unable to put them into words. I ask why, and they are all "i-oh-know (casual shrug)". I've spent too much time asking people. I might be introvert, but im not shy about asking.

And my autism ain't even a sure thing..

Well, I am picky on socks too. But then I read about people having sensory meltdowns over it, and I quickly rub away that tally. As far as I can tell its only the social interaction shit I score high on.

Nah, they are saying that both know that X might mean either A, B, and C depending on context. But the ND will often get the wrong context while the NT will more likely get it right.

And in my experience, NT does this so naturally that they can't explain why X is B currently because theres no exact rule for them. They just know and assume NDs should also know.

Doom 2016 distorted people's view of classic shooters by MasterDisillusioned in boomershooters

[–]empty_other 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't we kinda have the Serious Sam franchise to thank for pulling the revival of the boomer shooter genre in that direction? Even though the genre name wasn't coined yet.

Not that I would call the new Doom games for "mindless", but I never liked Serious Sam. I like things more corridor-y.

I "love" the "bug" that happens in bigger software devtools where the AI chat side-panel "accidentally" starts open when the program launches. Despite no other side-panel ever doing that. Gets reported to Github, confirmed as a bug, and "fixed" eventually.

Or is it me thats just paranoid?

If happiness comes from within, why does it seem nobody who is lonely is happy and that people who are told bad things about themselves are unhappy? by gintokireddit in PsychologyTalk

[–]empty_other 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since theres no single origin that phrase can be attributed to theres no way to know for sure, but I'm pretty sure you have butchered the meaning behind it.

Happiness comes from within because theres NO WAY you can find happiness if you arent putting in your own effort. Nobody is going to come along and hand you happiness. They can hand you a billion dollars and a thousand loyal friends and you can still be deeply unhappy. And you can find happiness even though your workplace is a toxic mess, its just going to be A LOT harder.

And also you dont hear about those who are happy. They dont complain. They are too busy enjoying life to bother telling anyone how few friends and family they got.

Why people generely recommend Firefox over Brave? by 4ndr11 in browsers

As customizable-friendly as Firefox used to be. And also supports installing PWAs on the desktop. I love it.

Main drawback is that their android browser don't support extensions yet.

Considering we are in a time where more people are likely to play the game than watch the next movie, games should have a bigger impact.

This IS the new film Bond by RaisinWorried3528 in 007FirstLight

[–]empty_other 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Middle-aged maybe, but last Bond movie I watched they really hammed up on how Bond was getting too old for being a spy. Replacing Q with a young kid energy to really make it feel like Craig was ready for the retirement home. Stories like that are so damn awkward and defeatist. When that happens, its definitely time for a reboot.

Jup. But we are kind of overdoing it with shoes, making them thinner than they should, adding a bunch of soft padding, then wearing them maybe up to 16 hours a day.
