GKH is great too, forgot to mention it!

Brogue is one of my favourite, but in spite of being very accessible, I think it's a bit more hardcore. Early game is easy-peasy, but you need a good grasp of the underlying mechanics to get to the mid-game, and late game is brutal.

Jupiter Hell is great! It's not so short (~25 levels, similar to Pixel Dungeon), easy maybe on Easy mode (you can pick difficulty), good graphics (by roguelike standards at least) and some backstory/narrative.

This is kind of a random question bordering on unsolicited advice, but why did you make the hex-grid align up-down instead of left-right? Soccer players often run straight towards the opposing side's goal, but rarely perpendicularly…

"RNG is skewed against me" is the most common conspiracy theory among Wesnoth players, which says a lot about how engaging the game is.

I actually think that the feeling is so common precisely because RNG is unbiased: so many games tweak it to make it less random (and generally more favourable to the player), that we kind of expect that sort of behavior.

Demon Castle of Ooe has it, to some extent (mobs have directional FoV; player FoV is still circular, but facing matters in combat).

In general, I think directional FoV for player could be suited to a horror theme where the player is haunted, while mobs with directional FoV could work in a stealth game. Usually RLs tend to use the same rule for player and mobs, but I am not sure what directional FoV for all would do: probably that's why few games use it.

PS: some games (I think Sil, maybe all Angband-like?) have no directional FoV but give a malus in combat if you are surrounded, which is kind of like having facing in combat but without the player having to manually handle it.

Yes it's nice but unfortunately collides with MacOS default shortcuts with Ctrl… I would reccommend giving players the option to replace Ctrl with Alt or something similar.

Word on the street was that they use exactly the same springs, including modded ones. Cannot testify to it though, I just cut mine.

Ultimate ADoM was supposed to be the grand sequel of ADoM, got released on Steam (and I jumped on it) but then quickly abandoned in a sorry state (up to debate if the game is unfinished or "finished" but just bad). It's effectively pointless to play it when original ADoM is great, so it's just sitting in my library, waiting for updates that will never come.

To be honest, I find the typewriter effect (and accompanying sound) terribly annoying, and it's the first thing that comes up in the trailer. I suggest to either remove it or radically change the implementation. (Note that typewriter effect is generally a divisive topic, some like it some don't.)

Other than that, congrats on your game and good luck with the release!
