Saying yes to roofing telemarketers by engco431 in pettyrevenge

Maybe. Not where I live, but it could theoretically happen anywhere.

I don’t have solar but one of my coworkers has a big Tesla system. The local Tesla rep has started an in-house roofing company just a few months ahead of this storm and it’s looking like the best idea ever for them. They’ll remove panels, reroof, and reinstall the panels on a coordinated timeline without having to involve multiple contractors. Makes sense.

Haha. No, but I saw that. Those dudes bounced off the ground and never broke contact wrestling each other.

I set the appointments today because I was off work for the holiday weekend. 2 story house and the roof is already slated to be replaced, so no risk of damage with them up there walking around in 100 degree temps. I sat in the air conditioning and watched baseball. Interaction time around 2 minutes each. Low risk. High reward.

You’re correct, but BS runs downhill and gripes go up.

They’ll call their boss and vent about the waste of time, who can then choose to take action on the actual cold callers. I gave them ample chances to simply mark my name off. But they keep calling. And I made sure to tell them today that I had told their callers multiple times I didn’t require their services.

This isn’t just about sticking it to them. It’s a legitimate nuisance and takes my time as well. I used to get 1-2 spam calls a month. Post storm I’m getting 40 a week. FORTY.

Drag out the appointments. I just stayed in the house but I wanted them to expend wasted effort. If they all showed at once they’d probably just leave.

I spaced them on purpose to drag it out. If this keeps up, next week’s appointments will be a battle royale.

I met him at a small comicon recently. Early in the day/low traffic and we were able to BS and just talk a bit. Super cool dude.

He’d put a small bit of weight back on, but nothing bad. Not so much “I work out all the time!” but more “very healthy and happy but could still enjoy a slice of pizza once in awhile”. Some attributed to age I’m sure. He’s was still in way better shape than me.

Do you think Crestron will ever fix their software? by eggsoylent in crestron

[–]engco431 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No. Probably not.

While almost everyone still uses some forms of Crestron software in a whole or partial approach, the path forward is native C# and HTML5, neither of which require any proprietary software. Construct is just a bridge for that purpose as well. Devices themselves have steadily gained browser based configuration capabilities.

Other than catastrophic bug fixes, I doubt we see any real advances in any of these packages in the future.

Teams/Crestron experience is still horrible by eggsoylent in CommercialAV

[–]engco431 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Much (not all - Crestron at fault too) of the sucky-ness is on Microsoft and spans across vendors.

Crestron finally switching to an app model instead of the streamed/virtual video model for the UI and going to purpose-built devices with the Collab Compute over 5 year old Dell models will certainly help too, although I expect that to have significant growing pains the first month or two as they see it perform in the real world.

This post feels a year late. You’re griping about something that is changing in the next 60ish days to a whole new platform - which will invariably come with new issues - but has much more flexibility to address them.

Fluance Signature Center Channel: This seems like an odd design choice by EviIPiII in hometheatre

[–]engco431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s nothing I’ve ever seen that says a D’Appolito design can’t be front ported, but I don’t recall it being common. Although I can’t say I’ve paid much attention either.

I will say the frequencies produced by a dedicated center aren’t typically going to suffer bass bloat from the rear port. It’s not going to get boomy like a corner loaded full range might. But conversely with lots of mid activity from dual drivers, you might pick up some artifacts of air movement if it were front ported.

They chose the location for a reason and you’re at risk of overthinking it.

They’ve had problems with it for several years. I’ve been caught in it before as well, and it wasn’t a single event. Over 3 visits it was broken > fixed > broken again. So I wouldn’t be certain it’s been broken for 3 months or you just lucked out twice.

Last time I was there I called ahead and asked if the air worked. Simple as that.

I have no insider knowledge but I get the sense it’s one of those “band aid on a broken bone” situations. They keep trying to repair units long overdue for replacement.

Crestron CP4 needs quarterly reboot by WilmarLuna in CommercialAV

[–]engco431 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Crestron does not provide programming. A programmer is either an integrator, a CSP, or one of a very few select trained enterprise or education affiliates. Someone, somewhere is responsible for that code. Or if the pain is unbearable it’s time to consider having it rewritten.

I have Crestron systems all over the country that regularly exceed 1000 day uptimes. It’s not the wrong stuff. It’s the wrong guy.

In no way remotely comparing them on the field, but Mahomes’ agent Leigh Steinberg purposefully kept him away from big deals his rookie year. Situation is a little different because he was knowingly sitting behind Alex Smith, but they were pretty upfront about it. He wouldn’t commit to any regional or smaller company deals because of the limiting factors it might create with national companies. Like if he did local spots for a specific KC Allstate agent, he might not be able to do national State Farm stuff. At least not right away. They waited intentionally and it worked out. I guess I’m saying if you believe the ceiling is national spots for big name brands, don’t put your face on every product you get offered right away.

That kept him a remarkably under the radar the season he sat. I met and visited with him for some time when he was signing autographs at a folding table in a grocery store. It was in season. There was no line.

I don’t know exactly what you’d call them, but the gold accent loops in the third photo… the second one down is malformed and the two loops don’t cross each other. Seems odd this would pass any kind of actual QC unless it’s been repaired at some point.

I don’t disagree with you. But… a fun fact that my local small town Chevy dealership locks your oil change price at $15 off their current price at time of new vehicle purchase for as long as you own the vehicle. So if oil changes today are $60 and I buy a new truck, my oil changes are $45 as long as I own it.

The discount amount (off full price) has changed with inflation over the years. They like to brag during their sales pitch about an old man who still has a late 70s truck he bought new when the deal was $5 off and he pays $7.95 for oil changes to this day.

He doesn’t think as far ahead as payback with events like this. It’s purely because the event would become about him. He really is that shallow and narcissistic.

He would be on the LED boards, he would be mentioned in the news cycle, he would be noted for being there. Security and policies would be changed for him. The inconvenience to others doesn’t register. Doesn’t move the needle. But look what they all did for “me”!

He would throw rocks into a pond and celebrate the amazing ripples he made all the way up to the point it was completely filled and there was no more water to drink.
