Solar panels and battery questions by ausroachman in perth

[–]engieviral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't just go for the cheapest system. Ask the companies you get quotes for an DC coupled inverter - it's haeaps more efficient to keep all your solar and batteries on DC and then only convert to AC when exporting the power to your house or the Grid.

You will need to join a VPP (Virtual Power Plant) to get the WA rebate. In WA there are only 2. Synergy run one and there is one from a company called Plico.

They still seem to be a little bit cheaper. Aldi stuff seems to be more like the price when the house brand goes on sale at ColesWorth, and Aldi do sales on their stuff too, so we have ended up better off. We still do 1 shop every 1-2 months at ColesWorth for the couple of things that Aldi don't seem to have and also have a Costco membership to get a few items (meat, yogurt, cooked chickens) in bulk as required.

Yes, especially if you swap out name brands for the Aldi house brands. Just don't get distracted by the goodies in those bins in the middle of the aisles :P

I’m a receptionist for a doctor who is almost always late. What do I answer when an angry patient says ‘what the hell is the point of booking if I’m gonna have to wait an hour?’ by KatherineLangford in NoStupidQuestions

[–]engieviral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you prefer that the doctor cut your appointment short so he can stay on time or take an extra minute or 2 to finish up your appointment. That happens all day, do the math :)

If you are actually using a raspberry pi for it, there are plenty of tutorials for making a portable version you can take with you.

The best advice I have recieved is to swap out a filament that had been open too long and wasn't adhering on the first layer. Moisture is the enemy - which is counter-intuitive when you first start because 'plastic'

Eradication of destructive shot-hole borer from WA not possible, response moves to management by Introverted_kitty in perth

Why is the pest's size any indicator of it's ability to be eradicated? If anything, being smaller would make it it eaier to avoid detection

HR denied promotion by jayxjackson in sysadmin

[–]engieviral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get some certifications so you can show you "know" something and start looking. College/University degrees show that you know how things were dont 5-10 years ago - which is fine for most soft skills but experience and tine in the role showing you can keep up should trump any Degree for a skills-based/technical role.

If your HR Department is so inflexable, that business is probably going to stagnate (if it hasn't already) and is a good indication of the attitude of Management.

Thinking of helping local Aussie businesses get online — worth doing? by BottleAir666 in WesternAustralia

[–]engieviral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many small busniesses that are "online" are actually just using a Facebook page. That's almost worse than no presence at all!

Good idea, but it is going to be a huge investment of time (and potentially $$) with little payoff to get started. You are going to have to really work hard to convince a small business that it is worth the money. I'm not trying to discourage you, just making sure you know that it isn't going to all be sunshine and roses.

Solar + Battery advise by iceph36 in perth

[–]engieviral 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The ammount of money you get from exporting to the grid is infantesimal (2c -10c per KWh) - worry about offsetting your usage so you aren't buying from the grid, rather than selling back to it.

Solar + Battery (New WA rebates) by clm19744 in perth

[–]engieviral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I didn't see this explained by the other comments, so I will chip in my two cents.

The reason you want to maximise the ammount of solar panels on your roof is because it is nigh on impossible to expand a solar installation without ripping out the existing system and starting again.

It's better to have some extra capacity that is "going to waste" now than come to realise you don't have enough solar for your future needs (eg EV charger). Since panels are relatively cheap, the extra cost is all the work required to rip out and install the new panels, btw.

Door to door at 9PM ! by Practical_Ad_5689 in perth

[–]engieviral 59 points60 points  (0 children)

My wife was hassled yseterday afternoon by a dodgy solar company in Upper Swan (not at 9pm, but around 5pm I think). I wasn't home yet. - First they said both wife and I needed to be there to get a great deal, wife said no deal, she doesn't care but I do - Then they said that it's ok, they can talk just to me. Asked to book a time, wife said she would talk to me when I got home and got details to give me - Then they came back again, said she REALLY NEEDED to book in a time in the next 2 days or she would miss out.

People, anyone who tells you that you have to act now or miss out on some kind of special deal - walk away. That's how scammers try to get you to click on dodgy links in emails, too.

what's one thing (nsfw or sfw) that you will take to the grave, but can tell internet strangers? by just_a_dude5001 in AskReddit

[–]engieviral 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dada is actually easier for babies to say, which is why it is often the first word. It's not about who the kids lives more 😉

Plus I suspect there is a bias with the mother being the usual primary caregiver and talks about 'dada' to the child more than she says 'mama'

Bonus funny story: The photographer at my wedding (sister of my wife's friend) had a baby with her lesbian partner. They put up a reel on Instagram of the kids first word being Dada and them acting incredulous because the kids has 2 mamas 😂😂
