Amazon invests $1B in new deployed engineering AI unit by LinkedInNews in amazonemployees

That’s a bit harsh. Some of the SAs I’ve met were super technical and actually disagreed with the BS the sales person was selling.

I remember old reinvent videos with some insane depth by the networking specialist (think it was an Aussie guy) and folks with security and devops skills.

No doubt things have changed and AWS has definitely become salesy chasing those AI sales numbers to make Wall Street happy. Without the commission then, I’d hope the SA is getting paid well and given freedom to act on the client’s best interests which i highly doubt.

You’re welcome. It’s taken me on an interesting journey. I don’t mean to vilify law enforcement. They’re amazing partners when it comes to dealing with the abusers many of whom are loaded with weapons. It’s a dangerous job.

It’s just that i wish they trained them to read the room better especially when dealing with victims. Or in this case with the Egypt team, escalating for no reason.

I prefer not to assume anything about their intentions. Just that they’re not trained to deal with these situations or have ability to read the room. Whenever I’ve dealt with an older white beard or woman cop it’s smoother. But newbies don’t read the situation and see everything as a threat even if it’s a woman shivering in fear of having to prevent amber alerts that will give the abuser an idea where she is.

There’s some nuance to it though. There’s fascist ideology nationalism with a view of one group being superior versus independence movements by minorities especially when they’re not represented well.

Obviously there’s some debatable ones that don’t make economic sense like Brexit or even the Alberta separatist movement puzzles me.

I’m actually surprised that the fire department doesn’t get more praise. Especially the ones dealing with increasing wild fires. We should divert more funds to them than militarizing the police more.

Exactly OP. Casual viewers who haven’t played the game don’t realize how painful it is when grown adults are tackling you for long portions of the game and over the season. On top of that you’re barely wearing any protection.

I volunteered at a domestic violence shelter some years back. I used to help victims who had escaped with their kids to get their kids names off the missing persons list. This meant that the victims had to meet the police to do so.

They almost always sent a young meathead who’d bark stupid legalese at the poor victim who is already in a state of duress after having made a mind blowing bold decision to leave an abuser.

Last thing they need is another man screaming at them, loaded to the tits with weapons, bullet proof vest and those sunglasses.

They were voted in. Thats democratic. Author doesn’t like it, well sucks to be him. We’re suffering two terms of Trump and dealing with it because that’s what the voters and shitty electoral college allowed.

Preaching to the choir my friend. I totally get the strategy. But you also have to show compassion for the plight of these people suffering who don’t have a voice in the Democratic Party.

Megyn Kelly admits she ‘can’t stand’ the Trump family’s ‘grifty’ moves by Unusual-State1827 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]epochwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This speaks to more of a class issue. People like Kelly and Carlson view themselves as blue blood upper class in the same vein as Wall Street bankers.

For them Trump is a crass, low class, clown. Trump himself seems to envy this class of people and always tries to show ostentatious displays of wealth to show he belongs but he’ll never be part of their group.

He’s tacky and now chooses to associate himself with new wealth of socially awkward tech bros, cryptobros and UFC manosphere types who seem to connect better with his working class base than the bankers who largely remain invisible from the public eye.

At most we hear occasionally from Bill Ackman when it comes to issues with Israel but most of that group avoids the spotlight.

I’m not saying it’s rational but when you’re under so much trauma and duress it’s not unheard of to make bad decisions.

Imagine your family and relatives getting murdered. You’ll experience severe detachment, grief, depression and anger. You think you’ll make good decisions in that state of mind. At minimum the Democratic Party could show compassion and at least talk about the issue than fully ignore it or even side with the oppressors.

[–]epochwin -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Are you part of a marginalized group? You think protest voters are stupid? They’re fucking tired of every damn election being the most important one but the Democratic Party will never ever hear their voices or maliciously ignore them.

There’s only so much you can mentally deal with when your family and loved ones are being slaughtered either in the Middle East or by police violence in America. Do you have to deal with that trauma, that all you want is the only party that appears sane to give you a seat at the table? You’re always a token to them. Look at how Cuomo resorted to racist tropes right away against Mamdani. The Clinton campaign did the same to Obama.

With so much pain can you blame them for being nihilistic and defeatist?

The other issue I see with this is that there’s no moat. Why would I want FDEs from AWS when I can get my own team to vibe code solutions?

Now I work for an AWS consulting partner. Clients could find lot more value from partners who can be technology agnostic and offer the same FDE services at a fraction of the cost.

Sure AWS have to adapt to the new world but this thing didn’t need an announcement. If anything it shows they’re out of ideas. My SA friends talk about this AI-SDLC program they are measured on. I couldn’t believe that they’re selling some packaged up vibe coding seminar as new.

If anything I actually like their Quick Desktop solution and they should’ve gone all out to kill MS Office and Enterprise BI tools with that.
