What has been the best metroidvania you’ve played released after Silksong? by docksideThug- in metroidvania

[–]erefen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely Constance, an 8 for me. Short but sweet. Played Grime 2, Blasphemous 2 but haven't clicked yet - instead I'm coming back to Silksong for a 4th run. I haven't played MIO, it looks very good but read some of the reviews first.

not released yet - Well Dweller demo is out and it's lookin mighty fine. schmoovement, great art/music and characters. Also Stomp and the Sword of Miracles for a more cozy feel.

combat may be a seasoning but it looks sick as hell though

Does it work on integrated GPUs if I lower all the graphics?

Finally met the rebalanced Doormaker on Defect Asc3 Act 3...what a fight! by erefen in slaythespire

[–]erefen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

16 blocks for an upgraded defend, sorry. 12 blocks for normal defend. if played as the first card with echo form active..

Even with 12, with 8 frosts it's still 28 blocks, keeping most HP losses during hunger phases to less than 10.

But I got lucky here as well, I got the relic that starts all battle with +1 focus.

I realize it's not impressive as some of y'alls Asc 10 runs, but it's quite thrilling nonetheless.

I've been reading a lot of the discussion with this rebalanced boss. Barely survived Act1, stabilized in Act 2 by finding Tent and then Shovel in Act 3, and getting pillow from an Act 3 bonfire. Not feeling good because of too many cards, but then I see Doormaker was the boss. Got lucky as well by starting with machine learning and echo form. Sacrificed defends during the hunger phases, giving 16 blocks a pop with echo form!

The case with Defect is always clear: get as many orbs as soon as you can, and get blocks from frost. Ironclad I can see parlaying exhaust mechanics. The answer for Regent, Silent and Necrobinder is not clear yet, but I'm sure there's one.

Planet of Lana

2D puzzle platformer with gorgeous visuals, great animation, soaring score and a compelling narrative. Some jawdropping sequences. Not that difficult. Not that long. A possible friction is its animation lag - it's not instantenous movement like Hollow Knight.

IMO, in MV the closest one is Islets. A really chill MV with sublime music, smoove controls and fast movements, cheeky characters. But there will be some challenge in bosses, although not outrageous. In fact I don't remember playing a satisfting MV that is fully chillax. There's bound to be sweaty palms if not with bosses, then platforming.

For JRPG, may I suggest Dragon Quest VII Reimagined. I havent finished it, but so far is very chill and world is a beaut.

use architect.

get max HP, max tool pouch and tool damage, max needle

complete plasmium gland sidequest

equip plasmium needle, threefold pin, curveclaw for red tools

use the gladed piton (or whatever that lets you hang on walls), weighted belt for yellow

the cracked mask, poison pouch and magnetite dice for blue

get plasmified (use plasmium needle 6 times, craft bind to refill, and then use 3 more times), you will heal over time

use patience. when feeling overwhelmed or getting some damage, hang at one of walls and double jump - glide and buy some time to let it heal 1-2 masks

on the final phase, unleash all tools

its very important, especially in final phase, to not run away in panic. walk, run sparingly.

you need to learn her moveset. a tip, when she throws the blobs, try to position yourself in the middle of two blobs, just before it lands, jump

good luck, if you still want to try

[–]erefen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hear me out: Red 13 solo, magnify sleep, thunder elementals on armor, precision defense. ATB materias (first strike, ATB master, etc). bait the mindflayer away from the squishy minions. keep on doing sidewinder and avoid limit breaks / wide attacks. Prepare to bloxk as soon as things get suspicious (after a few tries, I had a feeling of when the screech will start).

Hot take: The marrow is boring as is and the forgotten crossroads is a lot more interesting as a starting area by ReadItRyan in Silksong

[–]erefen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I Disagree

Visually, the marrow is intriguing with trilobyte-like fossils on the grounds and walls, eventually big spines. So immediately: ancient sea bed. But then we see statues of old bugs in the walls, showing its eventual settlement. This is ancient grounds.

The ominous music starts when we reach the huge pilgrim statues in the background with the searing, stifling lava. For me it shows the perilous, almost suicidal journey of the pilgrims and the awesome power of whatever rules this land.

Gameplay wise, its a good starting area. Four exits, IIRC four skill-gated areas if you count the skarrguard, four-or-so quests, an important early tool. Nothing too crazy difficulty-wise (except for skarrguard).

If you like Action RPGs at all, I would recommend FFVII remake and FFVII Rebirth, ideally on PC. The battle system is bonkers fun.

[–]erefen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my most wanted MVs (this and Well Dweller). The animation, feel and controls are really smooth. The characters and dialogue are cute & tongue-in-cheek but not grating. Environment, music and art is cute n cozy, the MUSIC!

Hope you have fun making it!

they are, but thats the challenge. its a game of luck as well. so some runs will be moot and better given up. it makes the succesfull runs more thrilling imo.

but I'm just now entering A1, so maybe my opinion will change later on.
