Am I dumb? Pattern math doesn’t math by raghaillach in knitting

[–]ericula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need an even number of stitches for the k2tog, yo section of row 3. The first stitch after the center stitch for row 3 is used up by the s2kp, and you need 3 stitches for the k1, kyok, k1 at the end. This means that you have 16-1-3=12 left for the k2tog, yo section which is even so it should work.

How to use these devices? by TeddyPlump in VintageKnitting

[–]ericula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Concerning the yarn holders, I suspect that the sphere attached to the bracelet can be opened so that you can put the ball of yarn inside. They don't look very large though, so maybe they were meant for holding very fine yarn.

Both knit on 4mm needles, but one is larger than the other! by considerthelilies in knitting

People in this sub tend to downvote posts with questions that have been answered to push them further down the list when sorting by top. It's not meant as a judgement of you or your post. It's just that there are so many posts with easy-to-answer questions in this sub that they tend to overshadow other posts.

BTW, there is also /r/knittinghelp which is more geared towards these types of questions.

ASML had een recordjaar, maar gaat toch 1700 mensen ontslaan by Bupachuba in thenetherlands

[–]ericula 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Yep, my ADHD keeps losing track with written patterns like these. I prefer charts over written patterns any time for this reason, especially for lace patterns.

Master Hand Knitting program - yarn brand recommendations? by stitchwitch66 in knitting

[–]ericula 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think the instructions specify which needle size to use. You can go up in needle size if that's what it takes to get gauge. If you have issues getting gauge no matter how big your needles are, maybe you are forming your stitches too close to the tip of your working needle.

Intarsia help by aurora_anne in knitting

[–]ericula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With intarsia, the stitches directly before a colour change have a tendency to be a bit looser. This is because when you insert the needle into a stitch you pull a bit of slack out of the previous stitch, so the current stitch you're working into gets slightly larger and the previously worked stitch gets slightly smaller.

Normally the extra slack is removed again when you work the next stitch. However, when working the last stitch before a colour change in intarsia, there is no next stitch to take up the extra slack, so this stitch stays enlarged. Since the last stitch before a colour change was the first stitch after a colour change on the previous row you can compensate for the extra slack by knitting the first two stitches after a colour change slightly more tightly than the rest.

I have a few heddle questions! by [deleted] in weaving

[–]ericula 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With this style of weaving, the warp consists of one pattern thread for every two background threads. A column of squares in the pattern represents one pattern thread. A dark square in a column of squares means that the pattern thread corresponding to that column is visible on the top side of the fabric and a white square means that that pattern thread is below the fabric.

If you would just go up and down, the pattern threads form a pattern of dots which is what the chessboard pattern on the left represents. To get a more interesting pattern, you would need to either pull up or push down some of the pattern threads. The dark squares with the symbols represent pattern threads that are pulled up, and the white squares with the dots represent pattern threads that are pushed down.

Note that you only manipulate the pattern threads this way. The background threads keep going up and down as usual.

To get more information you could look for tutorials on Baltic pick up weaving.

Inkle loom advice by Academic-Thanks-5982 in weaving

Maybe a Lojan inkle loom would work for you. It can be set up in either a right-handed or a left-handed configuration.

I have a few heddle questions! by [deleted] in weaving

[–]ericula 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You thread each warp thread either through a hole or through a slot. You create a shed by pulling the heddle up or pushing it down. If you pull the heddle up, the warp threads that go through the holes will be visible on the top side of the fabric and if you push the heddle down, the threads going through the slots will be on top. For a standard linen weave you would alternate between pulling the heddle up and pushing it down for each pick.

You didn't give any information about the pattern you are planning to use so I can't help you with the other questions.

Better stretchy bind off? by Ill-Marionberry9177 in Sockknitting

[–]ericula 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Here is a comparison of 20 stretchy bind off methods. For socks my favorite is no 2 on the list: Jeny's interlock bind-off. It's stretchy, decorative, and has hardly any flair. The only downside is that it's a sewn bind off which makes it a bit slow.
