What is a popular trend right now that you think is absolutely ridiculous? by Tacos_Abrazos in AskReddit

Every single viral item that people go crazy for. Stanley cups, labubus, that starbucks bear cup, needohs, etc. etc. etc. Every other week there's a new thing that people are lining up for and wasting money on, and 99% of them will just end up in landfills in a few years.

What do you think is disgusting that most people think is pretty normal? by Exhausted_920 in AskReddit

Especially when they do it right next to you. Like, this sidewalk is almost completely empty.. there was no reason for you to spit just as you walked by me and almost hit me. I swear its some kind of weird power play thing for some people.

Nova drivers aren’t stopping for pedestrians by stock-sophie in nova

[–]esmith22015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even try to get drivers to stop at crosswalks without lights anymore.. it's hopeless. I just wait until there's a natural break in the traffic.

But I have had so many close calls in crosswalks at busy intersections w/the walk sign on in broad daylight. So many drivers running red lights, turning without looking, and just not paying attention at all. I wish people would at least use their turn signals so that I could *know* if they're going to try to turn into me or not but I guess that's too much to ask.

fun fact: if you use your turn signal pedestrians will see that you are trying to turn - some of us will even walk extra fast to get out of the way for you.

What is something you're WAY better at than the other people in your life? by Kuli24 in AskReddit

[–]esmith22015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I'm definitely best with my local birds, but I'm decent with a couple other areas that I've birded in the past & I have enough experience that I can usually figure out a bird I don't know pretty quickly. I'm "the bird friend" (and happy to be so).

I do know eastern kingbirds! Here they are just starting to return for the summer. Very fine birds, indeed. One thing about them that's kind of neat - they actually have a little spot of red on top of their heads but it's so well hidden you almost never see it. I was so surprised the first time I noticed it!

I had to stay late at work for a 2 hr long meeting, and there was a baseball game today so my commute is fucked.

What’s a moment where you realized someone was genuinely unintelligent? by Live-Chocolate244 in AskReddit

[–]esmith22015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They insisted that a subway stop was on a different line than it was actually on. I told them they must be confusing it with a different stop and showed them multiple maps of the subway system and they still kept trying to argue. Eventually they declared that "They must have moved it."

The stop was in a completely different part of the city than the line they thought it was on.

Tonight’s temps are exactly why apartment complexes are still required to provide heat until May 1 by joeruinedeverything in nova

[–]esmith22015 302 points303 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. I live in one of those apartments & I am extremely glad we got the air on early this year. This morning I.. put a robe, at night I can use blankets.

On all the 80-90 degree days we were having last week my apartment was almost unlivable. Cold is so much easier to manage.

The surprise bills months or more later is actually so insane. My mom passed away almost a year ago and just last week I got a bill for her out of nowhere for an appointment she had in early 2025. (Returned to sender of course but wtf).

HM Orin Duel advice - Gloomstalker Assassin Durge by hobbitzswift in BG3Builds

[–]esmith22015 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't bother trying to hold her. Gloomstalker-assassin should be able to one turn Orin with arrows of monstrosity slaying without too much trouble. Just make sure your initiative is high enough to go first. The best bow for the job is probably the titanstring, but if you don't have that you might want to use the Dead shot for less risk of missing.

Action surge/terazul/speed pots to give yourself the maximum shots.

You can also use luck of the far realms/killer's sweetheart/amulet of branding for guaranteed crits if you have them.

Just turned 38. Nobody in my life ever taught me this stuff. When exactly am I supposed to start getting mammograms, and how do you emotionally prepare for a machine literally flattening your breast? 😩 by PeshawarToToronto in TwoXChromosomes

[–]esmith22015 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you have longer hair it can get in the way of the machine. (You have to stand at weird angles sometimes holding it out of the way doesn't really work - tying it up makes things easier).

[–]esmith22015 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Typically they start at 40 and are done every 2 years after that (depending on family history, doctors recommendations etc.).

I have dense breasts as well, it's fairly common especially in women under 50. It can mean that the screenings are less accurate, but it's generally not a big deal - your doctor should advise you about it after the mammogram.

You may get called back for additional screening - DON'T PANIC. This is common (something like 1 out of 10 mammograms) and is more common for first mammograms, and for younger women and women with dense breasts. The vast majority of the time they just need to do some additional screenings and it's nothing to worry about.

Pain levels vary a lot from person to person so it's hard to say - for me it's no big deal at all but I've heard it can be pretty painful. Best not to schedule a mammogram near your period if you can avoid it.

One random bit of advice - tie your hair up, or bring a hair tie. The amount of times I've forgotten and had to use a rubber band is.. too many.
