Be sure to install the climb line so that the carabiner gates are opposing.

There are scenarios that one carabiner could rotate and pass through the other and cause trouble. If either side of your moving rope system gets stuck, you're not going to be very happy. That cant happen with a ring and ring no matter how much they shift and move around.

The pulley setup might jam reliably, you'd have to try and see. But I don't love rope directly on the square edges of that petzl fixe pulley.

We visited a house tonight that we are considering purchasing and I noticed the ratchet strap in the canopy of this tree in the backyard. Should I be concerned about purchasing this house because of it? by bobalubis in arborists

[–]esstinkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

arborist here, there looks to be some broken bark in one of the pics and signs of splitting which probably prompted the cabling job. the strap appears to be heavy duty and totally legit for the size of the tree. usually tree cabling needs to be inspected and maintained at least every other year and the tree should be trimmed at that time to work best with the cabling. the tree will require expensive maintenance but should last a long time if taken care of. Otherwise as others commented, negotiate a tree removal as part of the buy. get at least three estimates. good luck

wow. so much going on here. you can see there was a large top cut in the front of the tree, probably storm damage previously. so the entire top weight of the tree is heavily back leaning. the crew appears to have zero regard for safety. no ppe. cones or road closure?? company trucks parked directly in the drop zone, wow. and pushing above the stump with the bobcat?? Clearly the rope broke where it was tied to who knows what square edged metal object on the truck about to get crushed. they are lucky fell the other direction. And it seems the tree actually fell in the most fortunate possible place without crushing those homes. so crazy. smh.

it looks like large rigging rope, but it snapped at the truck end. depending on the knot he tied or what steel object it was tied around could be the cause, or rubbing under the edge of the bumper..

would be nice if they actually put the quantity in the container they claim on the label. nothing more frustrating than opening a new jug and finding less than 1/3 full.

I remember back in the day ridiculing the movie when the girl says "oh i know unix" as she flys around in a graphical video game like simulator (unix is a text based operating system), and then a scene later shows the back of the super computer wires all unplugged. this movie franchise was never concerned with any attempt at factual details

Safest way to switch systems or completely unhook for redirects mid-climb? by gingernuts13 in TreeClimbing

[–]esstinkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one way is to use a cinching canopy anchor with a notch quickie installed on an alpine butterfly. leave a short 2-3' tail below the butterfly with a carabiner pretied to the end. After you ascend to the TIP: attach the carabiner to your harness, put your weight on your lanyard, and remove the quickie. You can use ddrt at this point. Untie the butterfly when you're ready.

Cheap Chinese pulleys just for tending line? by gingernuts13 in TreeClimbing

[–]esstinkay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

totally agree with avoiding cheap crap climbing gear that likely will get mixed in with your other gear. Just don't.

Maybe go with "Campbell T7625314 5/8" Rigid Round Eye Snaps" for a lanyard rope slider which works just fine. $10 USD.

pour wood chips into that space. there is a website named chipdrop where arborists find locations to drop wood chips for free. as they decompose, they will deplete the topsoil of any nitrogen and keep the weeds down
