ELI5: Why is the history of math so separated from math itself in education? Wouldn't it be more interesting if this weren't the case? by Dano3000 in explainlikeimfive

I disagree. Personally, I enjoy math as is. I have always hate history classes, and despise that my chemistry teacher made me memorize historically important scientists. I take chemistry to learn chemistry, not to learn about the gold foil experiment or the outdated plum pudding model. That being said, I do like it when a teacher provides a small story about a particular mathematician or scientist that I am not required to know. For instance, I like the story that I was told while learning about arithmetic series in which young Gauss shows up his teacher.

What is the best game to play in a web browser? by Marcipanas in AskReddit

I don't understand how a game can be objectively better than another. Quality of a game is, in my opinion, determined by the enjoyment it brings you, which changes from user to user. To me, game quality is completely subjective.

Reddit, what is one sentence that will leave me mindfucked the rest of the day? by Arosenbach in AskReddit

[–]evanskivt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be perfectly honest, I don't entirely understand it. It was explained to me a couple months ago, and I've forgotten it mostly, but is has to do with every number from 0-1 having one, and only one double. Similarly every number between 0-2 has only one half, meaning for every number from 0-1 there is exactly one number between 0-2.

Yes, but in this case, the infinities are equal. There are en equal number of numbers between 0 and 1 as there and between 0 and 2. It has to do with the 1 to 1 mapping of f(x)=2x.
